Paulus Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 (edited) Never rains but it pours ... another penny though! Should be a challenge even for the experts! Edited December 21, 2015 by Paulus 1 Quote
bhx7 Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 (edited) I have to keep some consistency . I also like to give out a challenge. I can't even remember how I got this one. Its been in my OTHER box for a while! Just got curious. Edited December 21, 2015 by bhx7 Quote
Coinery Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 (edited) That striking band and crude legend??? On first glance I don't think it's short cross at all?Edit: I've had a quick scan, but I just don't have the literature to get anywhere near this one. It could either be something incredibly exciting and crude from the Angevins, or a very crude contemporary short cross forgery? There's just that tantalizing bit of extra detail and positioning of marks in the reverse quarters that make this look unusual? The legends could also be fake, or crude emergency issue?? InterestingLooking forward to hearing the outcome on this one! Some of the reverse legend looks to be ...ARD ON (maybe CANT, but that would fit?).OR, of course, Richard I? Coinery Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 (edited) Not a great deal in that condition, unfortunately, Brian. Take a look here to get a feel for it...http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=richard+I+penny&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&LH_Complete=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=BS227GL&_sargn=-1%26saslc%3D1&_salic=3&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=50Boy, wasn't that great to have something a little different to bronze pennies! EDIT: Here's an eBay VLARD Penny... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/King-Richard-I-Silver-Hammered-Penny-1189-1199-Vlard-on-Cant-/371482700899?hash=item567e182c63%3Ag%3AB18AAOSw5VFWP3Po&nma=true&si=C4E%252Fla%252Bgd88kDexFgH47QmdyYfo%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Edited December 22, 2015 by Coinery Quote
bhx7 Posted December 22, 2015 Author Posted December 22, 2015 So maybe £8-£10 with the wind in the right direction ?Still like the bronze stuff ?Have a load of cut halfpennies and 4 hammered pennies, all London mint and Edward, I think. Just picked them up when picking up other items. Also quite a few Roman, but I do live only 2 miles from two Roman settlements! Quote
