Guest Richard Marsh Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Hi I am a new member, does anyone out there have an idea of the value of a 1955 five shilling coin. it has Queen Elizabeth on horseback on 1 side and 4 coat of arms on the other side. along the edge it has the following words inscribed "faith and truthI will bear unto you" Quote
Emperor Oli Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 I think it is actually dated 1953, and was minted to celebrate the Queen's coronation. It's only worth a couple of pounds unless in tip-top uncirculated condition, where it's about £5 Quote
Guest Guest Geoff Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I also have one of these coins and I can confirm on this one its 1955 Not 1953 Quote
Peckris Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 There are no 1955 crowns. However, the 5 and the 3 on the Coronation crown are almost identical apart from a small stroke connecting the top stroke to the loop. It's possible there has been some die fill, or damage, which makes the 3 on a few crowns look like a 5. Yes, pictures of the date would be most useful. Quote
Rob Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 Not related to the 1877 Silver Jubilee 25p crowns by any chance? Chinese copies can be anything. Definitely need a picture with a close-up of the date. Quote
