Hi All

A friend of my has had an interesting find in a local wood buy an old set of mining cottage ruins.

It is a lead imprint of George III, not sure if it could be a Halfpenny or maybe a medal or token of some kind. Anyone any idea's.

I am looking forward to seeing it in hand as it looks intriguing. Let me know what you all think.

I have added the original image and it flipped. Sorry for the quality of the image it isn't mine.

Cheers

Brian

When I was a detectorist I found a few Victorian versions of this practice. I just assumed it was kids messing around, similar to the mercury plating of threepences. I can't see a lead imprint would be of any use for anything at all?

Interesting piece, I wonder if a lead mould could be used to make a wax positives used for casting a forgery? but why forge a half penny?
