  1. Is nail polish remover acceptable for acetone, if not where do you get it from?
  2. Hi Iain and welcome only started really collecting myself a year ago, and only join the forum a week ago. Found the best place to get coins for beginners is ebay, got a 100 old pennies for £6.50 last week, most were in a shocking state but a few nice ones including a 1912 Heaton mint (one of the penny aficionados will most likely explain) which in theory covers the 6.50 spent, and the rest forms the basis for a penny collection.
  3. OK getting a bit away from dipping what about general cleaning, I don't mean an attack with the wire brush and vim but look at this half crown, there is obvious crude/rust/stuff around the lettering (look at the H in half) would you try and clean it off. OK it's not much of a coin and some might say best for the bin, but needs must etc.
  4. A stunner, love those EVII Florins.
  5. Thanks Stuntman, now that I have the bones of a collection (British pre decimal to 1816) I'm going to start and concentrate on the quality a bit more.
  6. My first attempt at showing my coins and as we are only talking toning and not quality here's a couple of half crowns!
  7. Anchor is assayed in Birmingham, Lion is Sterling Silver, H is 1932 K would be 1934 and JWT is the makers mark for J.W. Tiptaft.
  8. A polarising filter might help reduce the reflections!
