Do you agree with that grading? You can distinguish the face from the mane and there is a hint of the eyes and their jaws, but as you say there is wear on their faces and also at the upper side of the buckle and lower shield edge. EF+? A lot to learn in this department for me....

You just need two collectors with deep pockets and an interest in that coin! They probably live in the US. Which is not unlikely, as that coin has an important historical significance and is not a loose key date, with interest only to completist penny collectors.

I don't know about the right price, but GEF seems very optimistic. The English lions faces are quite worn out, so are the fleurs de lis around the Scottish lion, the oval brooch, etc. I would expect to pay at least £20 for a clear EF, £10 seems very challenging!

Hello, I am also new in the forum but I have been reading sporadically since I started collecting British coins a few months ago. I have started with a relatively easy series - predecimal coinage from Victoria onwards, types rather than years. September is upon us and there are two upcoming auctions at DNW and Londoncoins. I have never bid in these but I feel like having a go at some lots. What is your opinion regarding the grading of these two houses? I use the Rotographic book but I obviously don't have yet the experience to tell clearly the difference between AUNC and GEF. And all the lots I have on target are hovering on the high spectrum of the grading table. In the case of Spanish auction houses, that I am a little more familiar with, Aureo & Calicó is renowned for graduating very fairly whereas Cayon has a reputation for being too harsh and Vico is the opposite.
