  1. Despite the proclamation I don't see it as a coin. I can't spend it in my local shop. To me, it's just a round shiny thing.
  2. Indeed. I was delighted to pick up the shilling for a little under estimate.
  3. I've reported it. I don't suppose it'll help but if enough of us report it then it might get taken down and he'll have to relist it next week instead.
  4. That's the one Kev, thank you. £2400 hammer. It went unsold at DNW today despite an inviting £1500 start. Unfortunately I don't have the funds at the moment - I suspected I was missing an opportunity. Interesting that you used the Sixbid search engine instead of the Baldwin's one. I must remember that.
  5. Evening all. I would like to find out the result of St James' Auction 28, 24/6/2014, lot 566. They appear to have a search engine but it is completely beyond my abilities to use it. It's not terribly user friendly. Would someone be kind enough to assist please? Thanks, Jon
  6. Quite extensively, by the looks of some of them. I'm not sure how far you'd get these days trying to spend your Charles & Diana 25p on sweets.
  7. Bearing that in mind, how do we account for the worn specimens?
  8. Nor me, but there's nothing about that one that suggests a proof to me.
  9. With a somewhat confusing relationship to the seller: "my grandmother said son only sell when times a tough".
  10. As long as they don't let the public decide, or he'll be Kingy McKingface.
  11. I have similar thoughts on this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1786-George-III-Isle-of-Man-Half-Penny-1-2D-Coin-PCGS-MS63-RB-Choice-BU/173511249509?epid=843210060&hash=item2866138e65:g:USUAAOSwB4NWx3Wj cf https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ISLE-OF-MAN-1786-CU-Penny-NGC-MS63BN-Triskeles-KM-9-1-Pridmore-31-A/173340715021?hash=item285be9680d:g:je8AAOSwdPpbDXB9
  12. At what point do you start to think "it's getting a bit narrow down here"? Lynton / Lynmouth on Sunday.
  13. I was looking at the bit sticking out of the end of the 5 which appears to match this one: http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&auc=146&searchlot=2317&searchtype=2 I can't see the diagonal on that one either.
  14. I would be inclined to say yes.
  15. Do you know what book VS is referring to Will? It’s not one I’m familiar with.
  16. The best reference I can think of is Charles Clay’s “Currency of the Isle of Man FROM ITS EARLIEST APPEARANCE TO ITS ASSIMILATION WITH, THE BRITISH COINAGE IN 1840; WITH THE Laws and other Circumstances connected with its History” Happily this is available for no money: http://www.isle-of-man.com/manxnotebook/manxsoc/msvol17/index.htm#contents Mal’s IOM site is also very useful: https://sites.google.com/site/malsiom/home-1?authuser=0 For coins only, Pridmore’s ”The Coins of the British Commonwealth of Nations to the end of the reign of George VI 1952 - Part 1: European Territories” should also prove useful.
  17. Welcome to the forum David. Great piece - I can't see it mentioned by either Pridmore or McCammon. Was there anything else as interesting in the collection?
  18. Hell's bells! Wonders will never cease! Although the cynic in me might think that he was worried it might not make mule price....
  19. Never let the truth get in the way of a lucrative sale! I just feel sorry for the buyer.
  20. Well treat yourself to one of those nice Gouby Xs instead.
  21. Nah, it's ok. Who would fake that? I think it's just a combination of deceptive photography, probable cleaning and blatant lies about the grade. Apart from that it's great.
  22. Are you saying that's a fake Paddy?
  23. Not cool Shelly, not cool. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1911-Hollow-Neck-Penny-Gouby-X/302860817477?hash=item4683e95445:g:e9gAAOSwLEVbg4Is https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1911-Hollow-Neck-Penny-Gouby-X/302860817147?hash=item4683e952fb:g:Dy8AAOSwwNtbg4Cc
