  1. Sticking up for my coin now
  2. I would say mine was slightly better than Chris' 1924. The nose definition on rev and also the scratch across the lower bust on obv surely should reduce grading to less than mine. Plus as I said it is better in hand than the photo would suggest.
  3. Thanks guys totally appreciate your time in answering. So £8 including p&p was ok then.
  4. Hi Everyone I am not really a silver buyer but saw this and just liked the look of it. Think I did OK but would be interested in the grade. Definately looks better in hand. Thanks all in advance! Brian
  5. Thanks for the advice Pete, as always its totally appreciated. Cheers Brian
  6. I see what you mean. When I get it in hand I will take some better shots and post them.
  7. Will let you know when it arrives Rash. Only litteraly a couple of pounds wasted if it turns out to be just a worn out ordinary 1903 so no harm.
  8. Another coin fault I have just managed to buy. A 1920 Penny with blocked 2.
  9. I am with jelida on this one. The two half farthing photos are the same coin. All the marks are the same. Two small black marks at the bottom left of bust in a line to the "o" of Victoria. White dot at "G" / 3 o'clock. Crud on rim above "c" of Victoria. No question the same coin.
  10. It was the top that was bothering me. Its not brilliant but may do as a temporary gap filler for my collection. I missed out on Rash's on Ebay. It made a great price!
  11. Hi All Is this an Open 3 penny. I know the condition is terrible but just want to know your thoughts. Appologise for the bad quality images. Thanks
  12. Hi All A friend of my has had an interesting find in a local wood buy an old set of mining cottage ruins. It is a lead imprint of George III, not sure if it could be a Halfpenny or maybe a medal or token of some kind. Anyone any idea's. I am looking forward to seeing it in hand as it looks intriguing. Let me know what you all think. I have added the original image and it flipped. Sorry for the quality of the image it isn't mine. Cheers Brian
  13. Looks like it was struck through a lamination. Thanks Mr T, totally appreciate that. Just nice to be able to name the defect.
  14. Cheers Ian, now everyone thinks I'm a cheapskate, wait, I am ??. The two 1915's were in the £4 bag and the error coin in the expensive bag ?. Also managed to get almost a full run of decimal halfpennies bar 3. The meeting was great and enjoyed the auction and the banter. Cheers Brian
  15. Why can't I edit anything I have written????? The above should read .......when I haven't got the cash........
  16. Hi Pete, Yes still about and hoping to be for a long time. Really enjoying the hobby and enjoying exploring all avenues of collecting. Got inspired a bit by Nordle's error collection so just seeing what I have and putting them to one side. Also a possibly cheap side collection for when I have got the cash to get the coins I am sourcing for the main collection. It has also made me look closer at coins which can only be a good thing. Cheers Brian
  17. Just found another error penny. This time in a bag of odds and ends GB predecimal pennies I bid and won at the Tyneside NS yesterday. I also found a couple of fine- VF 1915 recessed ears so not a bad buy. Anyway, could some one enlighten me on what this error would be called. Thanks
  18. By the way thanks all. Loving the coins and the knowledgebase behind the errors!
  19. Here is a one I have, decimal 5p so not quite the same. I have picked up quite a few anomalies in the more modern decimal coinage across numerous denominations and years. I have added a normal 5p for reference. So what would this error be classed as?
  20. Here is the full obverse.
  21. As a "new collector" (after coming back after 20+ years away from the hobby) I am always intrigued at the discussion's regarding what people regard as collectable and novalties. I love a bit of everything from variants to die flaws, expecially in bronze coinage which is my main avenue of collecting. I do not have many but have studied loads of images online. I would love to see more as this unusual die flaws and quirks maybe a side collection I may take up in the future. I recently aquired a reasonable 1911 penny, about VF so nothing special; to be honest I thought it was a Gouby X but as usual it wasn't. Anyway it has a nice unusual break in the "B" of BRITT so thought I would let you all have a look. Maybe of no interest to some, but I like it. Would like to see other peoples, clogged dies, etc.. as I am sure there are some fantastic ones out there.
  22. Fantastic analogy and well thought out. I like all aspects of coin collecting and variants particularly. The point at which the line is drawn will always be different for different collectors. For me a die repair can be a real joy to find as it gives a history and story to the overall coinage process. My initial post has been brilliantly shown with your photos and to me is a variant, but I can understand other peoples reluctance. I am finding this whole discussion really interesting especially seeing so many different peoples views. Shows once again the diversity that is coin collecting.
  23. I know it has been said before but its times like this you realise how much knowledge and passion there is on this forum for coin collecting. Also very envious re the 1903 open 3's guys. I am struggling to find even one passable example. Thanks for the knowledge. I am now digging back through all my 1895-1905 pennies!!!!!! cheers Brian
  24. Just checked all my 1902 pennies, 27 in total ranging from good to unc. all are curved.
