  1. Spit on a coin ( silver one ) and gentle rub with tin foil,( shiny side )then clean off with a soft cloth, won't work on the heavy encrusted, but will shine up the blacker ones, obviously don't do this on any that are valuable. Btw there's plenty more in the Thames still, check out Thames&field website.
  2. Same here only books, but I'd have thought they would be upfront and honest.
  3. Oh yes,late saxon pennies,lots of cnuts https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152447513210706&set=a.63871200705.84690.609540705&type=1&theater

I have a thing for 17th century trade tokens, fascinating seeing all the old trades that no longer exist & a huge amount to collect .
  5. Edward IV first reign penny,Durham mint,it has reversed Es on the obverse, doesn't look anything special but is one of favourites from this reign.
  6. That's not too bad for a dug up one, most of the ones I find are far worse.
  7. No not really,he says he thinks they're replicas,& they've on their museum card,so he's not really trying to deceive anyone imo.
  8. Reminds me of a goldgulden Something lie this http://www.ma-shops.com/hanseaten/item.php5?id=141010002〈=en
  9. I know of a beach that has produced hundreds of hammereds, they're coming from the crumbling cliffs.
  10. Wildwinds is a great web site for identifying your roman coins, but I agree theres a massive range which csn be a bit bewildering, was chatting to someone the other day,and he's collecting the 12 Caesars, which narrows it down a bit.
  11. Don't know if it's the real deal or not btw.
  12. It's This one mate Trajan AE Sestertius. 103-111 AD. A bit random this, but I'm after a weihrauch springer air rifle, condition and age isn't too important so long as it's all there,I could offer you a choice of English hammered in exchange, thanks.
  14. Looks like a Nuremberg jeton to me
  15. Yep it looks like a stephen Awbridge penny to me,nice find.
  16. Mmm I thought it looked a bit suspicious too, there's a lot of discolouration I wouldn't expect to see on it,but I'm no expert.
  17. I've got a couple of nice edward 1,but not what you want,my only other is this.
  18. My feelings are that it is sveinn at Nottingham ,I would suggest you could try Dr Martin Allen at the fitzwilliam,if you've got the find location or near, you could get it recorded on the EMC.
  19. Doesn't look like a coin to me,it could be a weight,but again that's a bit doubtful too,so to sum up I don't know...
  20. Thanks chaps, this is my best Mary groat,it's not gonna get you drooling I'm afraid.
  21. Thanks mate, yes a shame about the damage, but it looks ok in the hand & will stay in my collection, unless I find a better example ( not very likely ).
  22. Hi folks, just thought I would ask what you think the grade of this groat is,I think someone deliberately slashed her across the neck, looks worse on the pic.Ive found several Mary groats over the yrs but this is the best portrait I've had to date, not sure how this pic is gonna turn out so apologies if it's a bit naff.
  23. Like this http://www.rarecoinsandtokens.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=84_251_293&products_id=1025
  24. I think it's a north wales evasion halfpenny token, PAYABLE AT W WILLIAMS,
  25. Thanks for the info,I understand the difficulties in grading hammereds, but do appreciate your views. This is one that I plucked out of a muddy field,it's the third martlet shilling I've found,so I was fairly sure it was a common one, although this one is by far the best condition, and is nice & flat,it does look nice in the hand, esp.the reverse.
