  1. So far I have only been able to trace the following staff of the old company. Margaret and Peter linton. Peter Williams. David Coultridge. From what i can make out peter and Margaret are deceased according to google. However it may be that the copyright went to either of the big two, spink or Krause. Companies house seems to hold no information on their dissolvment either.
  2. http://ukdata.com/company/00961257/NUMISMATIC-PUBLISHING-COMPANY-LIMITED http://bizzy.co.uk/uk/00961257/numismatic-publishing-company Disolved but no sign of being bought out or over.
  3. Ok, so I managed to buy a copy of that very good book grading coins, I opened the thing up and started reading and did not stop till I got about half way through it, at this point I decided to go for a shower, BIG mistake. It is amazing and worrying how when you look at yourself in a mirror you then look at yourself in the light of such a book, I graded myself as a "poor" , Hair is merging with the head and has serious signs of wear, signs of wear on the cheeks, and the list goes on. My only saving grace was that the book didn't seem to go below the neckline on obverses and I couldn't see my reverse ( eew what a thought )and so I did not grade that far down. On a serious note, its a good book, and I wonder how I got the few "discs" I did in the fair grading. I must of had coke bottles on that day.
  4. Indeed you can, and they are dead heavy and not very shiny Magpie except in VF++ and above, careful what you wish for! Hi Paulus, I only have one wish, well two, one is for more knowledge bringing the ability to be able to work out coins for myself, the other is erm well, to figure out what I want to collect specifically, so many shiny objects to look at leave me with much confusion...
  5. Thank you Chris, the education is continuing,I didn't know that about these and 1797. I asked here because I would prefer one from a forum member than a dodgy copy /possible fake from ebay.
  6. Ok, I am after a Cartwheel penny, nothing to fantastic and year is not important, but must be cheap, I want one merely so I can at least say I have one, and I can upgrade later. I have a fascination for one. Can't buy it right now, but can in about a week or so. So if you have one for sale that you can set aside let me know will you. Chris please can we have a wanted section !.
  7. magpie may have been a better name, they like shiny objects too I actually like magpie better but it was a late thought, so if Peck wants to change it AGAIN go for it Peck
  8. I would say EF/gEF. I want it in my collection so I will say "poor" and hope you are blind and I get a cheap price  . Seriously, i have no idea but it is pretty and shiny, Gollum likes.
  9. I have to admit, I like some of them, my only proble with them is that whilst I could prove the coin itself is genuine, i could not prove the same of the engraving and its origins, many could be a modern fake on original coin, I can only imagine how much more a bad coin would sell for if it had say a message from nelson to lady Hamilton on it. I am not knocking anyones dream or desires, I am just pessimistic about them.
  10. Looks like it to me, nice catch Azda
  11. It is the same photograph. So conceivably the American seller (whose price is about double what the English seller sold for) was so confident of winning that he put the coin up before he had won the English auction, but also possible that they were in cahoots although quite how this could be achieved is unclear. It is too distinctive, or even pig ugly, a coin to forge so can't see that there is any other explanation. I can agree to the in cahoots theory, or that they were just waiting to see who got the most for the same coin, however if the amercian seller was merely confdent of winning etc, it leaves me with the puzzle as to how he has so many more pictures of this coin than the "original UK" owner/seller where I would expect it to be the other way around.
  12. I would say that is obvious dear watson, as the other US party has an abundance of them on their auction, then the person with the single one must of "borrowed" one, or else they would have the same number on theirs for the US party to have taken and then also displayed. Now pass me my violin and crack pipe dear chap .
  13. I suppose they could both be genuine coins, but one of the sellers here in the uk has stolen the others picture and wont admit it. What's the chances of that with this specific coin date though.
  14. Well, they should be. Neither auction states that the coin is not the one pictured. The British one has now ended. The American one shows both sides of the (same) penny, enlargements. Someone has asked the American seller if the penny for sale is the coin in the picture, and been told "Yes". There is definitely something funny going on. And it's quite clearly the same coin - there couldn't be any mistake about it. Thanks you two, got them now. Well if it is not resolved, I wont be buying from either of them in future.
  15. A link to both coins would be good ?. If you are referring to these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GB-Victorian-Copper-Penny-1856-/320823495880?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab2920cc8 http://www.ebay.com/itm/GB-Victorian-Copper-Penny-1856-/320823495880?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab2920cc8 Which are the only two identical ones I can find, they are the same seller and in the same place.
  16. Thanks Tom. Will take a look in a bit and see what i can do.
  17. win win situation i have sold a little on ebay, but no expert, i do believe they have days from time to time where its free to either place an auction, dont know if its free completely, ie no commision.....there may be others better placed to answer that. paypal is very convenient when buying, not so good when selling, aquarium products seem to be advertised under either....home and garden or....pet supplies.....better still both. ski It's a free listing weekend this week , but I still havent got a clue how to do it all.I have only sold one or two things in the past but much has changed now even the rules!.
  18. I also do not want paypal getting my money and holding on to it like a leech before I can buy coins and books.
  19. I have some stuff I want to sell on ebay, I want to sell it without paying that mob a fortune in fees, and as fast as I can, it's all stuff from when I kept fish, and quite a lot of it, The fish stuff is a lot of mixed items. like eheim filter and pumps etc, but I do not want to split it all up, I would rather it went as one lot, my problem is also what category to put it in !. I also have a sony walkman X-1050 mp3 player with desktop carrier. So if you can help explain to me how to do this I would be grateful. If not then I am going to have to sell the wife and kids for coin funds , actualy that sounds like it could be a resounding success.
  20. Rather apt, Yesterday I was looking at the auctions of rare girl guides ones, then the wife came home with a unc one, suddenly I got given another in change by the bus driver, then another from Tesco metro in town, so I now have 3 rare ones, how rare, only 50,0000 or 70,000 struck according to whichever page of the RM site I look at. I also got a number of other designs from the bank without auction fees or postage of course Garry, I am interested as I was thinking doing this myself - did you say that you had gone to the bank and exchanged some cash for some bags of 50p's? If so, what proportion of them were commemorative roughly? I couldn't say as a percentage, about erm 30% if my terrible math is right, out of the £100 worth, we got about 60 of the darn things, however there were a lot and I mean a lot of duplicate ones, more so of the shooting, swimming, wheelchair ones, I also got a number of those older dictionary ones, we sat at their table for a long while going through them before having the cheek to then give them back asking for it to be put into my account which elicited a tather strange look . I intend to hit RBS and Lloyds next time. Looks like coin rolling as in the USA is going to be worthwhile here.
  21. Maybe the boss man could give us a beginners a downloadable template ebay selling page, and I could upload a picture of my coin, you could all grade it and such then i can post it on ebay. I am just so so so Lazy and scared of being ragged on a description
