  1. Thanks azda, looks interesting, epecially as it had a D in the centre - pity that's not my birthday though! email the details and I'll have a butchers
  2. Oh many thanks Peckris. I should have thought to look at Davis - I was trying to work it out from Spink and was wondering what an "aquiline nose" looked like!
  3. I think you might be out of luck! french coins I think you can still exchange notes until 18th Feb though.
  4. Afternoon. I have bought this 3D Victorian coin and I am trying to pin point the date as much as possible. I wondered if anyone was familiar with/could help with identifying which head it might be please - A1, A2, A3, 4 or 5? Many thanks as always.
  5. Wow! I found this, looks like it might be an Indian coin at 4mm - can you imagine the detail on that! smallest coin
  6. What sort of diameters are we looking at for these coins guys?
  7. I have discovered that that half ruppee is in fact a two Annas. Its slightly smaller than a 3D. Its made me wonder what the smallest coin to ever have been produced was?
  8. That's interesting Declan, was it that year in particular or was it because you yourself happened to have lots of examples for then? Oooer.....two the same - does that make it a variety?!!!
  9. As several of you have kindly pointed me in the direction of a few nice engraved coins here's a coin which I thought might be of interest to a few of you penny enthusiasts on the forum. Looks a decent grade to me - but then I am only a beginner of course! worth a go?
  10. Don't forget that nowadays Guides can be boys and Scouts can be girls!
  11. Hi Jackie - great to see another lady on the forum ( please forgive me if I am wrong! )
  12. And the obverse
  13. Wasn’t sure where to post this, under foreign coins, engraved coins or my last topic of can anybody help…anyway I wanted to share this little gem and again I have no idea what it is – but its very lovely. Only 15mm in diameter, the engraving is tiny. Anybody have any idea what it might be or aprox year?
  14. Thanks guys, I'm sure it is a half franc. Here is another one I bought from Andy Howitt ( thanks for the tip Tom) I looked it up on the net and was surprised to find that its culpro -nickle. I assumed that most silver coloured coins from the 19th Century had some siver content. Something else learnt.
  15. Its 18mm diameter looks about the size of a 3D.
  16. Any luck Paulus? I didn't get the crown
  17. Evening all. I have finally purchased a few engraved love tokens (purely on the basis that I liked the look of them and they were affordable) It is rather liberating to purchase some foreign coins which I would otherwise not have entertained. I am however sorry to say that I know very little about them! Just wondered if any of you out there might be able to give me some extra information such what percentage silver / common year etc. Here’s one I think its AVF?
  18. Happy birthday gentlemen! Perhaps the date on which one joined the forum should be celebrated too - but then you would still be old timers..
  19. Oh good luck Paulus, let us know if you are sucessful! I rather like the engraved Charles 11 crown.
  20. Actually you will have to email me first as your email is private Colin.
  21. Yes very interesting Garry thanks. Not surprised us ladies were good at deception and attention to detail! Interesting about love tokens and jewellery could have been affected too. Colin - I have the relevant bit on PDF if thats any help. I'll email it to you Colin.
  22. Have any of you seen or used this one? auction
  23. That's interesting Azda. Given that you can’t always see markings in hand and so have to rely on a magnifying devices, do you think that coin grading could be getting stricter with the improving technology? At what point in time did coin grading start?
  24. Another thing - purely from a beginners perspective - would the size of the coin have anything to do with it? I mean that's a sixpence so very much smaller than say for instance a crown, so on the same sized photo wouldn't those nicks and marks translate to be much less prominant on such a small coin?
