  1. OPPS again I meant 25years!!
  2. Gosh, that really makes me feel old, I mean that is 15 years ago – where did that time go? Anyway back to coins… I do think there is an air of hopeful / expectant money making potential in finding a perceived old coin, especially for those unfamiliar with coin collecting. I read somewhere that coins were probably one of the most numerous objects to be made and one which nobody throws away. I wonder world wide how main coins have been made to date?!!!
  3. Yes thinking about it is in that ilk.... I remember as a child I thought the the Spanish Inquistion and the comfy chair was hilarious. I don't really get it now?! Bagtrap...ner ner, ner ner ( twilight zone sound effect) oh never mind....
  4. Ditto Coinery! Last year my boys were heavily into the Horrible Histories series. There was this brilliant song which helped us all learn the English monarchy ...... great fun!
  5. Now then I think we might even beat the 82 online at that point!
  6. Perhaps if some older members are still about they could give us a quick " I am still here and collecting" greeting?
  7. Thank you gents, I can always rely on you lot to give great detailed replies to the vaguest/ muses and questions!! That's an intersting list, doesn't seem to be in any particular order(?) Does anyone know what the reputaion and the stars refer to?
  8. Opps that's 988 ......still!
  9. I notice that the membership number is up to 998...who will be the 1000th I wonder. It has me wondering what percentage of members actually contribute to the forum, I'm pretty sure its not anywhere near 1000?!!! And who is the longest serving member (apart from Chris of course)
  10. Well s***o, whoever they were, must have been gutted when they thought they might get it at £21 when they were prepared to pay over £850!!
  11. Guess that would be me then! How on earth did you scare the other lady away Chris - do tell?! Yes I'd love to add that to my collection Chris. PM me and let me know what to do.
  12. Wow Seuk you have been busy! How long has that taken so far? I do like it, easy to use even for a beginner. One thing I would suggest is having a set of photos for the genuine shilling too?
  13. Hi azda, as you know I am no expert but here is the photo of the other very worn 1850 shilling that was on ebay last month. This is the one that’s probably been altered, but the 5 does look different? And the 0 seems to be nearer to the ribbon than yours. Might help?
  14. With these things I have found it may be a case of whatever someone is prepared to pay. I'm sure others here will be able to give you a rough idea what it would be worth if it wasn't engraved - I would’ve thought at least £70 looking at Spink. One thing is certain, if you can find out a little more history on it it will no doubt increase its desirability and price immensely.
  15. Yes I was going to say that it looks like a “love token†to me. Where the reverse has been purposely erased, edge decorated and a new engraving done. No idea what the significance of the shield / dragon is though I’m afraid but I bet it had some unique and special meaning.
  16. Hahahaha! Cheers guys for your nice comments on the coin. Just wanted to post something today as won't get the chance for another 4 years!
  17. awwww shucks... I know you'er only humouring me Just for you Ski SO or OS(?)
  18. Thanks Nick! was thinking it might be that one.
  19. Afternoon gentlemen. I wondered if anyone familiar with half crowns could help with identifying which reverse this is please? Rev b, c or d? Davis says small cross, med cross and large cross? I don’t know exact date, as no surprise it is engraved on the obverse. Many thanks as always
  20. Do you know what is the difference in sale price was?
