  1. Well said, Sir!
  2. I've had a fair bit of fun with them, at a time I could do little else! It's the only opportunity to 'feel' what it was like for all those 'boys' on here who collected from change ions ago! Second only to squatting in rubble and playing machine guns in the early forties. Good fun, mostly, for the kids at least!I believe Christmas was better appreciated back then too! http://www.phespirit.info/montypython/four_yorkshiremen.htmBrilliant MR, thoroughly enjoyed that read, being an Am Dram an' all!

  4. In the absence of any coins or things to enquire about I come here! Kate Bush on BBC4 (still) brilliant...can't believe Babooshka was 1978! Top lady! (Tottie)
  5. Yes, I don't see any "A" in that over-punch! For me an "I" over a tumbled T...the A in the rest of the legend, and normally, has the thick arm to its right leg, notwithstanding the fact that the general look of the serifs are wrong! Nice coin regardless!
  6. Looks more like an "I" over to me?
  7. I saw this too, Scott...the usual pewter 3d! Fired of the usual email too, of course!
  8. Yes, nail varnish remover contains moisturisers! Some supermarkets (with instore chemists), and Lloyds Chemist stock it! Edit to add: as Dave similarly mentioned, the sticky stuff may have been on the coin BEFORE the tone the coin has now, which means you may end up with light 'untoned' spots, instead of sticky ones?
  9. Not rare but all hammered is interesting! You've got fairly good examples and the Newcastle one certainly isn't an exceptionally ubiquitous example. Number 1 on this thread has an interesting 'cross' replacing the inner circle of dots between the side fleur of the crown on the left and the centre. It's just an example of a slight error/variety done when sinking the die. All in all, nice purchases! Was this a job lot and is it a sign of further hammereds to come? Keeping you busy, Sir! And, indeed, bring on that hammered! About time there was a push in this direction! We've been modern milled for far too long! Now where did I see that nice 1982 10p?
  10. I don't buy that, there would be far greater distortion of edge lettering, etc., it these were genuine HC's formed into globes in this way!Unusual idea, all the same!
  11. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=191273491324 I've sent a nice email to the seller.
  12. Just the usual 191273491324 but love the big-sell description, packed full of numismatic terminology!
  13. The flips are standard, and fit into boxes OR wallets. The holes in the flips handle very small, right up to crown!
  14. You're off the hook, Colin, you're not the last...belated birthday wishes BCC!
  15. All I can say is you've struck your first little piece of gold in finding this forum! Read around it and you'll see what a top class bunch of chaps et al. are on here! Stuff you will never find in books, nor discover from 'experts' in the field out there, typically TPGCo's, will be intelligently represented on here! I've always thought George V to be numismatically diverse and interesting, and a good place to cut your teeth! Welcome aboard! You'll make lots of mistakes, just don't make them expensive ones!
  16. Many thanks, gents! A hammered copy, then, great! I keep meaning to catch Dave at one of the fairs, we've communicated a fair bit in the past re his 3d project/collection!
  17. What type of copy is it, has anyone handled one? Edge seams? Thick? Weight?
  18. Yes, I've also seen numerous coins with legends like your's, where everything appears intact, except a small doubled section! Double-struck, with no added premium for that, unfortunately!
  19. Tell me again...how beautiful is life? ?
  20. That sounds pretty amazing, BG, I'd heard the canadian one was coming over for a spell!8 merlins roaring by, likely 10 with the Spit and Hurricane, makes my stomach roll over just to think of it? My favourite planes of all! Flying a Spit was what got me into flying, awesome! You're going to have to have me and Declan over next year, we can split the travel costs!
  21. So was I, Stu!Ah, there it is! I searched everywhere, remembering you said this! was a great day, Declan, SO hot...no shelter...thank god for the cider van! I was in a field on the North side of the runway with about 200 other cars. £15 to the farmer to park up, he supplied a burger van and a few portaloos, and the best seats in the house from the comfort of your own car roof.So close you could feel the heat of the afterburners on your face! How very Declan! I did spot a couple of fields with campers in, on the left hand side as you approached the gate, and thought, yeah, that's the way to do it! Exactly what we plan to do next year, strangely enough!
  22. Seeing as it has 'COPY' clearly impressed into the reverse, you'd have to be a blind idiot to buy this for £300. Maybe the seller meant £3? It's a shockingly poor example, surely the seller isn't so lacking in the area to know this!Even my wife instantly filed this as fake! Good girl! X You've been spending too much time talking to the missus. Mine also seems to be increasingly well versed in the minutiae of numismatics. Nerd alert! I must learn to stop wittering on about dies and punches and engravers and mints and catalogues and sales and latest purchases and .............................. great stuff!

  25. Lovely coin, what a shame about those fields!
