  1. As an upadate also notice a couple other flaws with the 'normal coin' There are a few blobs on the grilled part of the design another scratch off the Fur elise and one of the holes along the bottom in the middle near the MD signature opposite the other Twenty error line has not been punched properly and is filled in. Could this be a new previously unreported flaw?: Regards Russ777 No responses yet so I guess people are still looking for the Mule 20p thoughts on this please I am looking to sell?? Might do an ebay.... how common could this be and out of interest how might it occur??? I haven't seen enough of them to really comment or say how rare they might be, but the new 20p's are turning out to be quite interesting. I'm still keeping my eye out for one in the change. Hus
  2. I'll take a look Mark and thanks to all those who have registered. I think you'll agree its quite fun and easy to use, it may take a couple of months to get flowing once more members join and start selling and buying but please bear with me. Regards, Hus
  3. I'll need to keep a look out for one in my change now.

  6. Friends, numismatists, fellow collectors lend me your support. After hearing many stories of your disillusionment and plight with one of the leading online trading community websites, and due to the fact that the leading online company in question doesn't have much of a serious competitor, I have designed and built a new website where you can buy and sell your coins or numismatic items. I have built this site from the ground up with you the numismatist in mind. It is easy and fun to use, free to join and free to list items for sale. The only charge is a modest 4% to the seller on the final sale price of any items sold. I think you'll agree that 4% is very reasonable and I plan to use most of any monies made to invest in advertising the site. Hopefully this will be the catalyst for a virtuous circle leading to increasing numbers of buyers and sellers. I am currently going to have a banner on a few coin forums and a couple of dealer sites, and I am planning on a colour advertisement in Coin News (UK) in the next couple of months. I am dedicated to this project 100% and with your backing I'm sure we can make it a success. Now for the giveaway. It is open to any member of the forum. To enter for a chance to win the coin pictured below: simply post a comment in this thread. The giveaway will this time next week, where I will put all the entry names into a hat and my wife will draw out one lucky winner. Thank you, Hus
  7. Welcome back Scott. It sounds like you've been through a tough time, I wish you all the best for the future.
  8. I agree with Rob and Chris's answers. As for coin fairs, I have the same trouble living just over the Border in Scotland. I have resulted to going to antique fairs instead. If I am lucky I may find one table with coins for sale.
  9. Sorry, but I agree. That has been done on a machine after it was minted.
  10. I don't know much about these at all, but it looks nice. Great find!
  11. Any pictures? If only one side is blank, my first guess would be that it was post mint damage. Does it look like it's been filed or sanded down?
  12. Good point I hadn't noticed the star. To be honest I don't know. I don't really collect ancients although I do have a couple of Byzantine Solidus coins. Maybe someone else will know more?
  13. Link to Wildwinds: http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/honorius/i.html It looks very much like RIC 1206 Honorius AV Solidus. Milan mint. Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right / Honorius standing right, holding standard and Victory on globe, captive at foot. RIC IX 35c. http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/honorius/RIC_1206.jpg but I think its RIC 1206d Honorius AV Solidus. Mediolanum mint. Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right / Emperor standing right, holding standard and Victory on globe, captive at foot; M-D/COMOB. http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/honorius/RIC_1206d.5.jpg The C of COMOB is further away from the O Hus
  14. These sort of things: http://coins.shop.ebay.com/items/Coins-Pap...idZm270Q2el1313 I could be wrong but I think the German manufacturer Lighthouse does a similar silver coin dip? but I have never tried any of them, and don't plan to either.
  15. Just to give you all an update. It came back from PCGS verified as a DP#1 and graded VF35.
  16. Well they are added to my "if ever I win the lottery" list. To be honest I like most if not all the coins I now have in my collection, especially my world gold collection. I am enjoying collecting world gold coins as the only criteria I have set myself is that I have to like the look of the coin before I buy it. Not collecting a specific country, date run or a type allows me a lot of freedom and means I can "cherry pick" the coins I want to add to my collection. On the more strict collecting side I am trying to build a complete set of 1/3 farthings and then possibly move onto the other fractionals as well.
  17. Hard to choose one. The Victorian Gothic Crown would be up there, and If money was no object: Petition Crown Una and the lion Triple Unite Probably more, but they were the first to spring to my mind.
  18. Some US collectors prefer their coins dipped. In fact dipped used to be the sought after commodity. Now the fashion seems to be for wild rainbow coloured coins. Some people say dipping is cleaning, so it should reduce the price of the coins, but apart from guessing that a coin has been dipped, ie too nice looking with no sign of toning it is quite hard to prove, especially in UNC grade. Some coins where stored in airtight boxes or containers after they were minted and show no signs of toning, and full lustre. If you look on ebay your bound to see a lot of Morgan dollars which have with litlle doubt been dipped (ie "blast white"). If however a coin is dipped too many times it will loose its lustre and look cleaned (which means it will loose its value). If a coin isn't UNC and DOES shows wear yet it looks like the day it was minted with no toning, then this should throw up warning flags. This would indicate to me that said coin has been dipped or cleaned.
  19. Can anyone help with what this coin might be? I think it may be a cast/forgery, but I was wondering of what type? I took it down to my local jeweller and he tested it and said its at least 22k on his tester, could be higher but his tester doesn't go any higher. Any help would be grateful. Thanks, Hus

    Hi :D

    Welcome to the forum Lomax.
  21. Hi Bolt, My website touches on different types of major errors but not different types of varieties or variety errors yet. I am adding to it as and when I get time. Just click on the link below and then on "error coins". http://www.coinsgb.com/ Regards, Hus
  22. I have had a look under magnification at the 1980 10p and there are faint signs of reading to the edge. That coupled with the difference in weight, means it is post mint damage.
  23. I bought this one a couple of weeks ago. It's my first Scottish gold and its now safely stored in the bank. 1602 James VI Sword & Sceptre (120 Shillings) James VI became king of Scotland in 1585 at the age of 21. he was the only child of Mary, Queen of Scots. On 24 March 1603, he succeeded Elizabeth I , to become James I of England. He then ruled England, Scotland and Ireland for 22 years.
  24. The next coin has me a bit puzzled I have to weigh it but, even though thir are a few scatches on the reverse, I don't think it's been filed down. If it hasn't been filed, then it isn't like any error I know of, as all would leave some impression. The only way it could have been made would be with the use of one (obverse) die. I took the coin out of the 2x2 and weighed it. It weighs 10.74 grams on my scales. According to the books it should weigh 11.3 grams, but I weighed 2 other 10p coins of the same type on my scales and one weighed 11.23 and the other 11.19. The edge is also plain and it is the same size as a normal coin:
  25. I bought three miss-struck coins at a local table top antiques fair on Friday. The first two are clipped planchets: I liked this one because the clip is almost exactly at six o'clock. Some people try and collect what is called a clock collection of clipped planchets for the same type of coin. I.e one with a clip at 12 o'clock, then 1 o'clock, 2 o'clock etc. Until you have an example of all 12. I might try that some day.
