  1. thats a nice healthy return azda.........you dont want to flog my car for me do you?.... so did you get the coin cheaply in the first instance or has prices risen that much? how does that all compare to book prices?
  2. got my spink2011 today......free postage with amazon, amazing considering the weight of the book, postie got a free hernia too, everybody wins!! my copies got the duplicated proof section, second proof section has the last introductory paragraph missing......we could start a new varieties topic here. the last spink i bought was 2005, although ive a copy of 2007.....so when this copy turned up my flabber was absolutely ghasted . But........its a great reference, many of the coins i will probably never collect/afford but i can look at all the pics and drool, and dream of 6 winning numbers. ive got a feeling i will not be carrying this book in my bag around coin fairs. its no longer a portable price guide. library???........ive seen them mentioned on my council tax bill, but.........
  3. if you work on conversion from pre-decimal to decimal, a farthing was worth 0.1p!! so this coin is worth 0.03P.........or...........enough for an 1883 jubbly
  4. Nero............didnt he have a BURNING ambition to make software.......
  5. thank you for the reply........i will check out my collection at closer detail and will contact you if i find anything unusual ( to me anyhow, as a collector and nonexpert). I am familier with the recent sale of the Alfred Bole collection and was amazed at some of the 6d coins that existed which i had no previous knowledge of......okay some were patterns and proofs, but very interesting non the less. Thanks once more.......ski.
  6. ive got a collection of uncirculated paper clips i will happily trade for some gold coins..........
  7. whilst on the subject of good coin sellers, i can recommend worldcoins.biz, run by richard groves. would have scored 10/10 but hes located in dumfries his coins are fairly priced and his grading is good. ive always been pleased with my purchases.
  8. P.S...............i can nearly remember 14
  9. well 30.000 likes will be good, if their all coin collectors
  10. i bid £50 for a vickie florin in one of their auctions, it was won by them for £55!!! and its now slabbed (quoting the auction/lot number) and for sale on their website for £350 anywhere north of watford is a dark mysterious place where the dragons and trolls live, and anywhere south of brighton is where the french live . you should be able to find somewhere nice in between
  11. ditto the ditto and the other ditto i joined facebook when it first started......got hit by spam big time, i think the spam issue is resolved now. also got fed up with 12 year old kids wanting to be friends......i shut it down
  12. excellent........worked for me............except for the turning on/off thingy

  14. ive had this discussion with cgs myself, their grading system seems erratic, ive 2 1934 tanners graded by them, 1 unc80 and 1 unc85.....guess which one is the better coin. finest known however is only whats past through their hands and slabbed and not a reflection of what is available elsewhere.
  15. yep, got another 20p from a work colleagues change today with the same error as my own.
  16. okay got another 20p with exactly the same error on the tail and the same bead is damaged but more so than the first example......more than just crud i think.
  17. wow......thats better than i thought it would be..... a lot of medical research is being undertaken into bluetooth devices causing warts :D
  18. i think you had the better deal im really getting into this check your change thing.......prefer my florins though
  19. saw this on ebay and thought of all you penny collectores......ski http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1875-VICTORIA-BRONZE-BUN-HEAD-PENNY-SUPERB-UNC-/270687422237?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item3f063a471d
  20. Not a great fan of these new 50p's, but i have taken from change a fencing, a boccia and an athletics.....26 to go what will i do when ive got as many as i can, i can always put them towards another nice coin.
  21. just seen a very nice uncirculated 1884 and the v is closed in on that coin too, i think that gives me the answer to my question. Thanx all......ski
  22. i think the bluetooth coin is the correct one and all the ones without bluetooth are die errors i wouldnt mind seeing a photo of that coin.
  23. Absolutely right Rob, and all points of view make for an interesting read, long may that continue. im off now to check my change......
  24. okay......i would probably never buy a 5p or mule 20p from ebay, because im not a decimal collector, although ive now got some decimal coins (i blame you lot )........but i collect 6d's, florins, double florins and half crowns. and i bet most of them have been bought. My collection would be nothing without the sellers, so, good there are people who sell!. im also not a collector of error coins to any great degree, i have a few examples, but im guessing that if you were a collector of such coins, you may well be grateful that someone has an example that you desire for sale, enabling you to buy the piece. good luck to you Chris for selling your coin, if i found such an item in my change, i would keep it, you choose not to, thats your choice and your collection has benefited from your gain. Someone said here not the purest collecting, he didnt collect, he sold. hence my previous post. i wonder how many of the coins i have in my collection have been sold to me at a profit.....most i would imagine.....if not, there wouldnt be too many coin dealers!.How do we know that 100 years ago someone acquired a coin from change and today were happy to trade that coin!. This is completely different to the scamming that goes on. ebay is full of ads for 20ps with no date on the reverse, just a rip off. well done chris, i hope you enjoy youre new (old) 6d, i bet your buyer is equally delighted with his coin, i doubt he would have parted with £255 otherwise.
