oaahh yay, oaahh yay let it be decreed from here on..... jubbly's were the international curency for schoolboys.....and now fosters cans are the international standard length for a half foot of coins

okay i thought why not measure a 2pence coins thickness, divide a foot by that number, and voila no of coins... but no, im far more scientific than that....so here goes. a can of fosters lager is 6 inches tall, i stacked 2 pence coins along the side (78), and double it to get 156 2 pence pieces to the foot

i found one in my change and spent it.......i think we did the right thing!!!

and the reason why i would fail miserably at being a coin dealer i think its quite sad that people can see this as a way of making a quick buck or two but then ive only to look at ebay.

the cats whiskers.....ha a friend of mine bought 1 of those gilded coins....a boy scouts 50p, hes not a collector, he is a scout leader and made it into a very nice trophy for his troope. nah...they leave hairs everywhere

im not sure coin collecting ???? is about making a quick buck, although selling on ebay seems to work for some. some of the dealers ive spoken to say they can have coins in stock for long periods of time before they sell. i think if it were that easy.....we would all be at it. some terms you need to know for when youre selling on ebay. wow....megarare = used to describe a coin with a mintage of around 100 million an extremely rare variety = the coin is sooo worn, no detail can be read. never offered before at this price = i tried it last week, but didnt get what i wanted. judge the grade from the photos = i know nothing about grading, or how to take sharp photos. all in jest.......

The problem with the internet......people expect it for free!! having said that, for a dedicated publication of the type were talking about here, most would be prepared to pay a sub i think for online access. but as said before, theres the small item of writing content.

no thats 3 pages too many. forget the mongolia, give me tanners , any time.but is there a large enough market for such a publication. i work in local press (photographer) and much of that industry is suffering and is now looking or going to the internet to reduce costs, just look at how books are now going too with amazons "thingy" device for reading.....paper in youre hand material is in decline.

when my youngest decided to start collecting, my dad gave him his collection of silver 3d's, im sooooo jealous. but my son who is 15 now understands that whilst their not going to make him rich, they are grandads coins......and that is what coin collecting is all about.

ive been a coin collector for 40 odd years and i have never even considered this. i will stand on the side of melting, but only if were talking fair/fine coins as im a great believer in the preservation of our numismatic heritage. i would not want to melt a good piece just because its metal value is more than its value as a piece of history, the coin collector in me is fighting that......I think that may be an easier decision to make if i were a coin dealer however as turnover/profit comes into the equation. I have 1966 and 1967 coins in my collection and more besides, pennys halfpennys dodecagonals and as much as serious collectors may feel their of no numismatic value, i treasure them, as an 8 year old entering the hobby, they were my first coins, metal values may exceed their value.....but their mine and have been for over 40 years. my sons can fight over who melts them when im gone

youre right azda...i share youre feelings. a colleague came to me recently with a nice collection of farthings and a few other oddities thrown in, was nice to view them but not my bag as it were, they were his mothers, so now hes decided to collect coins. i prefer beer to medicine though

welcome conor my sons middle name isnt connor, but what the heck. i hope you keep the coins, if their low grade, they will be of more value to you personally than the money they may fetch. if their high grade, well you may have the start of a nice collection. additionally to what has been said here already about ebay spreadsheets etc, you will learn a lot about history, rulers/wars etc....coin collecting is an enthralling hobby..... i hope you decide to keep em.
