Izax, I'd be tempted to put the whole lot on in one go. Then you'd be taking the profit and could make sure it went to a good cause, should that be your intention. Don't think I could face the hassle of single listings for a decade!

Hi all, Many people here seem to have quite extensive collections. I was wondering how you go about insuring them - are there specialist companies? Do they ask that you keep everything in a safe? Also, do you have to constantly update them on your current collection? Any advice would be appreciated.

I used to work on the tills at my local supermarket in my school days. We had scanners then, but there was this old nutter who used to come in who thought they gave you cancer and made you ring his £80 weekly shop through by hand. We used to watch him passing along the till line with dread!

They've gone a bit mad with the 29(?) Olympic designs for the new 50p. They're in danger of turning into those Texaco World Cup coin series! If you bring out too many designs, people get the idea that you're just cashing in (which is probably the case, to be fair!)

Going back to the £2 coins, I've been collecting them as a "rainy day" fiscal mechanism for three years now. My rule is to never spend one once I get given it. This does have drawbacks - I buy a copy of the Sunday Times with a tenner and get 4 back. It gets expensive! Got a few hundred quid's worth now. £2 coins do stand out from the rest of the modern coinage in my opinion - the contrasting metals, large size and interesting designs do a lot to make people look twice at their change. Just looked at my collection and am missing three of the Commonwealth ones, the Olympic one, the Burns and the Florence. Oh, and I got a Guernsey one a little while ago, which was exciting!

Hi all, Wondered if anyone could answer a possibly silly question for me? I've just been given a 1797 cartwheel penny by a relative, and the obv and rev are pointing to different ends of the coins, ie they stay upright when rotated on the east/west axis. Is this right? Never seen one up close before, so just thought I'd ask. Thanks, BS

Ok, found them. Bought Spinks and got a copy of Grading Britsh Coins on order, so hopefully should soon be ready to launch myself into the market armed with the relevant knowledge!

Thank you both for your sage advice. I'm looking at Victorian date runs as my starting point, then seeing how my interests digress. Glad I didn't just started throwing my collection in wallets - will have to do some more research. Any good books you guys can recommend for condition/maintainence? BS

Hi all, I'm new to the coin collecting game and was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on storage. How good a grade coin is ok to be left in plastic wallets? What needs more specialised storage? Any particular metal types a problem?
