  1. You can also see a comparison on this link
  2. For some reason I cannot edit the above. The rate is £5 per £1000 for coins
  3. I use Wardrop & Co of Coggeshall in Essex for my collections. When I have had items lost in the post payment has been by return. I cannot recommend them too highly.
  4. Yes you are right Fubar, both coins seem the same, if you look at the REV to the right of the date there is a small light scratch and the same scratch appears in both auctions, so no idea what he's playing at, whether it's a mistake or whatever Not only that, he describes one as a half penny. Not demonstrating great trustworthiness...
  5. He does have a fair few English coins John, more than i would say was normal for a German dealer, maybe around a few hundred. i think his English coins outweigh everything else he has for sale from different countries. So it might be possible that he reads the boards, although his English isn't that great. Well it was obviously a lesson for me, but he said in an email to me that what he puts up for sale is not always what is for sale, it was in his German Terms of Sale, but what i would say is, why photograph a coin if its not the actual coin you're buying? Ususally a German dealer would state if he has more than a few of the same year coin (diverse Jahrgang) but this did not state this, but as i said, a lesson learned, he also said he will now refuse to sell to me again (big deal i say, there's a million dealers in this world) To my mind posting a 'stock' image of a similar coin is misleading, and I certainly would not deal with that person again. As to the original image - I have seen so many blemishes caused by corrosion looking like die letters etc that I doubt that the original coin had anything real there.
  6. At the time they came out I got several Northern Ireland, a few Wales and Scotland, but no England. It was not until last year that I got one in change. They are certainly amongst the scarcest types to find in change.
  7. Fosse, You're correct. The £1 was on its way to being minted for circulation every year but then none were produced in 1998/9. Mind you, since 2000, all denominations have been produced every year. The reason for that is very simple. The two pound coin had been introduced in 1998, so demand for pound coins eased off. This is similar to the growth in popularity of the old 12-sided 3d which caused a reduction in demand for the penny in the early 1940's and from 1949 to 1960, and also for the drop in demand for the 50p after the introduction of the pound coin..
