  1. Speaking of shite, i hear Sunderland are looking for a New manager
  2. Speaking of Peck, where is old yeller. He's Not normally this quiet
  3. I did'nt realise that prices could go down TBH
  4. Trawling through a Spink (Price Guide) last night at work (2010 edition) and was looking at the Maundy sets from Queen Anne. I'm not sure if its an error on Spinks behalf but a 1713 Maundy set in the 2009 edition in EF is 625 pounds, 2010 Edition is 650, yet in the 2011 Edition it's DOWN to 600, is this an error in Spinks rush to cram so much shite into the 2011 book or can the prices go down?
  5. I was listening to the story this morning, they are scanning newspapers over a 10 YEAR period, so perhaps at some point they will get to the one you want Derek.
  6. It looks a great resource, i'm going to give it a few more months and then take out a years subscription so i can read some history as it actually happened, IE: Jack the Ripper story, Tay Rail Bridge disaster amoungst others EDIT: well it actually gave me a freebie on the Tay rail disaster, but surveying the same page i came across this piece which states: The Licences for dogs, carraiges and MALE SERVANTS must be renewed by the end of the year.........Brilliant, didn't realise you needed a dog licence in 1880 lol If anyone is interested in reading a little bit about the RTay Rail disaster and the operation to find the bodies, it can be found here http://www1.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000269/18800105/018/0002?browse=false You need to register to view it, but it's a free page to read
  7. Here's a link which might be useful to all. The British library is putting the newspapers online from the 1800s to present, although subscription based. http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/
  8. I think you misunderstood my intention Michael. I put this on the forum for the seller, she thought it was rare and with lustre, i corresponded with her stating otherwise and pointed her to the predecimal forum. I basically put her ebay pictures up here and asked her to follow my link to this thread so she can see exactly what she had. Its like many sellers on ebay, everything they have is rare and with lustre, this seller obviously wants to learn, and i have already seen her become a member here, so hopefully she can see i was'nt bullshitting when i said it was'nt rare and it was actually cleaned in some way or other. And so, just for the seller of the actual coin, Freeman66 is OBV 6 plus REV G and not the REV I that you thought it might be. Rarity rating is R6 which is 30,001-50,000 made. Also the verdigris is also a huge problem on any Bronze coin, which in effect gives it an even lesser value unfortunately.Sorry you had to find out the hard way Linda, but many collectors also find out this way, this is what forums are for, to hopefully not make so many costly mistakes.
  9. I bethe died with a smile on his face though
  10. I had a pcket from Harlen J Berk take over 4 weeks, i obviously knew where it was considering the length of time it took, and yes, i had to pay fricking tax on it
  11. No, if you look at it carefully, the top serif of the 5 slopes upwards rather than the normal straight line, but then again, better asking the farthing boys
  12. Here's one i found, seller states 1675, but it looks more like a 6 at the end.On enlargement, it is a 5
  13. Items between the EU are not liable for tax Michael, hence i didn't put anything on the packet, it's only outside the EU that tax is payable, albeit over a certain amount.
  14. I don't wish to seem sanctimonious but this problem has cropped up 2000 years ago over a Roman tax. Jesus' answer was sinple "render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's. Why should we want to cheat either the tax man or a forum god? I have been taxed at UK customs but on the occasions that I pointed out The coin was for my own collection and research purposes the tax was refunded. And look what happened to Ceaser
  15. Gary Speed commited suicide............Geezus, that was a shocker.....
  16. Ok, i'm hoping the ebayer will come onto the forum and look at the thread. She says she's been told lots of conflicting opinions of this coin. So a couple of things, wanting to identify the die pairing and also determine if its been cleaned or not, my guess is it has been, but opinions can always differ................Opinions please.

  18. Geezus, they should be persuing the seller of the coins to the guy. What a waste of time and money thinking they were genuine all those years and then turn out to be fake
  19. Edge and weigh, its also a halfcrow. The bottom serif s of all the I's on the OBV look wrong to
  20. Agreed with Nick, and with the Sovereigns alone, they make about 250 quid each just in bullion, so there's 5k alone in Sovereign bullion, best to weigh the other mexican and American Gold coins you have. Some pictures of the earlier Sovereigns would be helpful to determine if they are bullion value only or have numastic value, ie: worth more as a collectable coin.
  21. Here's another 2 fakes
  22. Some auction houses are exceeding spink prices. Maybe Take a look through some of the more prominent auction houses results from their paar sales this year
  23. And I would agree with him, don't get too focused on the price books, if you are telling me that compared to auction houses on a specific coin, similar grade coins are selling for less on ebay, then buy them on ebay if you want one, and sell them through the auction house if you have one to sell I think it is too easy to assume that you are comparing similar items. But if you are comparing similar items the above guidance would make perfect sense Here's one in particular, although i think wrongly attributed as UNC, i think is proof. Still not in hand yet and the sellers picture was particularly shite, but the fileds definately look prooflike and seems that the rim is a lot thicker than normal. In total, 22.21 euros paid, but i paid this hoping its the proof i think it is. We'll see when it arrives. Sorry about the small picture, but hopefully you'll see what i mean from it and he only had the REV showing.
  24. More money equals more profit equals shill bidding equals greed. Why is it only auction houses and Martin Platt get book prices or more for coins. Any auctions i watch on fleabay are always wayyyyyy under book prices for rarer or decent graded coins (i can hear John Stephenson now when i say BOOK PRICES) but auction houses seem to work via Spinks book.
