  1. And all while punk was having its day in the sun gutter, too! Actually, I think Then There Were Three is a much maligned album containing some great songs.
  2. Quite right. That AEF specimen was a nice looking coin, and certainly tempting to the likes of me. CGS = "the new Coincraft"?
  3. The Yes Album is one of my favourite albums of all time! Genuine classic.
  4. Ah now we're talking....the Live '79 album is probably the most perfect music of the 20th Century. That and the Inkspots anyway. Bloody Hawkwind. By which I mean the band masquerading under that name by the only surviving member Dave Brock. Yet not so many years ago I went to see Space Ritual.net, who comprised Nik Turner, Dave Anderson, Del Dettmar, Terry Ollis and his son Sam, and who were, by any definition, more Hawkwind than Hawkwind if you see what I mean. The only thing lacking was the nude dancer Stacia but I think she would have had to send her daughter anyway
  5. Emma Gumma?
  6. Aww. His mommy probably loved him. And this was probably her :
  7. Apart from the odd one or two! MOJO Magazine run a Top Ten feature each month, and recently it was Pink Floyd's turn. I was most non-gruntled to see that Atom Heart Mother was not in the list at all. It's so trendy to view this as a "failed experiment", yet it was their first album to get to #1, and surely has one of the most memorable sleeves ever! And Dave Gilmour pushed hard to get Fat Old Sun included on the "Echoes" compilation, but failed.
  8. I use the Mac equivalent (FileMaker Pro, also available for Windows), and now I wouldn't use anything other than a database manager for my collection. They are infinitely customisable to your own needs. (I'm sure you CAN store pictures in Access though? But the way I do it is have a separate FMP database for my pictures which I relationally link to the collection database). Stick with Access! Access is a database manager - like Excel but much more customisable.
  9. Its a game Peck, i doubt even the experts will get the price, so have a wee stab, answer to follow tomorrow No thanks - what would be the point? As much point as someone who's never played cricket going in holding a ping pong bat, unpadded, taking a position facing the wicket keeper and asking, "Now what?"
  10. I agree - but my point was that the penny equivalent is worth far more, as halfpennies just aren't fashionable. Sure it will sell, at a good price for a halfpenny, but...
  11. I'm afraid I have a Catherine Tate level of interest in hammered, so I'll pass on this one.
  12. Hang on to it by all means - it's a major rarity - but don't wait for the post-1807 halfpenny market to revive, it's always been a 'poor relation'. The equivalent bun pennies with die letter are worth in 4 figures.
  13. For wear only (disregarding the green) it's certainly EF. But that green is a problem. It could be stable as Derek says, arising from having been buried at some time. It doesn't look like active verdigris but you'd need expert opinion from someone seeing it 'in hand'. A photo isn't clear enough for that. If you have a coin dealer anywhere near you, it would be worth taking along, especially as the value could stretch to 3 figures.
  14. or "notquitethefullshilling"
  15. Securing the domain name is half the battle!
  16. "... when that fat old sun in sky is falling ..."
  17. That's quite correct Derek. Those pattern 3d's WERE supplied to test vending machines, and it was their non-return that accounts for the 'few' (how many?) that are at large today. No other UK Ed VIII coin was ever issued in any form (except a few proofs). It's also the case that so rushed were the Mint to get out George VI coins for 1937 after the abdication that they virtually re-used every design : with the exception of the silver 3d (quite a nifty quick knock-up job), and the 6d (quick and nasty monogram effort), and a hasty minor redesign of the GV halfcrown reverse, all other designs were as for Edward. Even the portrait bust is virtually the same, which considering the two men weren't exactly identical twins, shows how pressured they were.
  18. Could have been a shopkeeper who simply kept it as a curio. WW2 would have then put most other thoughts out of his head. In due time, it was inherited by someone who knew a little about its reputation and rarity and decided to send it off for authentication. Or it could have been any number of similar stories.
  19. Peter Leonard of ?Southend? makes / made the best cabinets. If he's no longer in business, the cabinets do come up second hand from time to time and are worth looking out for. Make sure it's a coin cabinet though - I bought one of his from an auction that turns out to be a medal cabinet : the trays are deeper and don't have punched recesses for coins. I still use it for parts of my collection though Mine's one of Peter Nichols'. I have to say I thought I'd heard he was retiring but he still seems to be making the things! Oh I know where I got confused - Peter Nichols of St Leonards on Sea??
  20. Most dealers there I'd never heard of, Clive, and looking them up afterwards quite a few have no internet presence at all, which is remarkable. Quite old school in a way - it almost felt a bit "underground", compared to the mainstream I'm used to swimming in. As well as Rob, the other people who sold me stuff were: David Craddock Birmingham Coins Ian Pratt Paul Davis Numismatic Legends D T Peake K B Coins Dave Craddock and K B Coins are very much old-timers - I remember them from the mid-90s. Possibly Ian Pratt too? but the other names are unfamiliar. Did you happen to see Dorset Coins, Carlton Coins, Lockdales, or Wayne Nicholls there? They were familiar faces to me all those years ago.
  21. I have a 1967 penny "7 over a barrel", which I could let you have for a song

  23. Yeah, but most of those are things like "Why are the Kardashians so popular?" and "Who are One Direction?" so don't really count! Are they the popular cousins of the extremely unpleasant Cardassians? Yes, and who ARE One Direction? (I did hear one of their songs that I thought was someone doing a remake of The Who's 'Baba O'Riley')
