  1. All The time has come for me to start shifting the coins on the website - I am putting them on Ebay Times are hard so if I can shift these it will help a lot! 1799 - 1837 on there now the rest will come over the next few days Cheers
  2. I can only agree with comments posted so far. The striking, if it is not cast, is weak, the lettering BP just looks wrong, the lettering is a slightly different font as the uprights are thinner than I would expect and the M is not at all like any of the other Ms on the sovereign or like the font for the S on the Sydney £2 ( 8 known). That said the size and weight are correct but how did you have the gold content assayed at 22ct. ? I would be interested in such a piece as a forgery but without provenance this must be recognised for what it is. I got a large "Chocolate Coin" for xmas it was like this!! Young head Vic on a 67 Half penny reverse lol - The choclate was good though!
  3. Scott the easiest identifier is the tide in relation to the corner of the rock. They can be found artifically darkened a lot easier, but the light finish coins, are much scarcer, but this can only be confirmed on highly lustrous coins, because they generally tone down very similarly. Here is the proper link www.myfarthings.co.uk/victoriavh1897.html

  6. Now on site http://www.myfarthings.co.uk/victoriavh1897.html
  7. Just got myself a bright finish Low Horizon 1897 farthing only £7.00!! See Pics
  8. I didn't realise it was a 6 year old post until you said that !!
  9. I just noticed this on Ebay.fr and took a punt on it £8.00 total paid for it! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...T#ht_546wt_1165 What grade would you put it as?
  10. Funny, My wife says that all of the time when I try to talk to her about coins, usually along the lines if "what did you spend this money on?" ah well she gets it now.
  11. Silly question time fella's What exactly is W.W and where on the coin can i find it? Appologies for the stupidity of the question but its gone straight over my head? The WW is for William Wyon who modelled the head of Queen Victoria on the coin. If you look at most coins even today they have the initials of the designer. Hope that helps James
  12. Most of my collection have these errors (speaking about young head farthings) and yes they are common. That why myself and Colin don't have them on our sites - I was talking originally about the misalignment of the letters in REG
  13. I dont think so, looking at the whole coin, there are a lot looking like that. I have attached another 2 close ups, On BRITANNIAR only the First N and r appear to be OK, the rest like as you see. The trident, arm of Britannia and the Thistle etc.. at the bottom also show signs of doubling up. So looks like its a whole re punch. The Obverse is completely clear of any errors! Look at the COLON to see what I mean
  14. Hi All I am just looking at 1847 tonight and have noticed a definite difference in the lettering of REG across 3 types. I have masked the 3 for the first pic and the rest separately What do you think? Actual coins will be on www.myfarthings.co.uk I lined up on the colon !
  15. People search eBay on high prices? What on earth for? If I'm not looking for anything specific (or a particular seller) I sort by 1) ends soonest or 2) recently added Why would I look for something expensive??? I do it the same way - don't think I have ever looked for a coin by high value!! I agree with Chris though - I saw it come on when looking at recently listed and didn't even bother to look. And yes i thought - yep here's another one!
  16. Nice job - just need to correct you on 1914 and 1915 farthings (haven't looked further than Geo V) - there are TWO known varieties of each farthing for those dates (a different obverse introduced in 1914). Also, in 1918, there is only 1 obverse and reverse - the "variety" as such, is that some farthings were darkened at the Mint like pre-1918s, others were issued with full lustre. Hi Chris Believe it or not i was just looking at those 2 pages, was checking the coins that i have and realised my error!! Both have been changed. I have said "Varieties" though as you say some may not strictly be a variety but as you say merely a Dark/Light one. but i thought i would keep it easy. Saying that i am going to put on the pages where these are, a bit about why they did it. Cheers
  17. She has bought me a fancy camera this year!!! Talking about back log of coins? i have about 400 farthings to look at and Christmas is just around the corner as well. Ah well will get some done tonight! Cheers
  18. As usual Chris as soon as they are ready can i have a copy?? Cheers been away for a while but back on now. Doen the site over as well www.myfarthings.co.uk
  19. Should have said the coins section under personal for the moment until i get huge amouts of sites and then will change over to database functions.
  20. Hi Guys - long time no speak!! been busy with some new projects OK This is a wee bit of an ad so apologies for that! I have started a new website called www.tryingtofinda.com The aim is to get it as large as possible (obviously) I have added a few of the members sites to get me started and have now over 100 sites on teher with god knows how many emails to get through in 48 hours I have added the following site coins4u.net predecimal.com aboutfarthings.com colincooke.com coinsgb.com If anyone else would like to add their site (Free of charge of course) please click on the add site button and follow the instructions. either that or just post your url in this topic! Cheers guys
  21. OK Thats the site complete, with the 2 graphics things attached and all on black background www.myfarthings.co.uk Time to start on a couple of new projects!! Thanks for all of your help so far James
  22. Site is back online at last - taes ages with all of the images! Ok If you now look only at image 3 you can use the magnifying glass and then if you click on it it then goes into the picture frame, albeit not the full size image (so it fits on the page. Im now doing all of the coins with the black background as well. Cheers
  23. Im really sorry if anyone has tried to look this afternoon - I have changed servers and i had 3 sites join into one so i took all of them down. farthings being uploaded just now. I have also managed to link Images 3 & 4 together to make it easier. Cheers
  24. I am using a combination of CSS and Java script for it. to add is a huge long piece of coding <div style="float:left" onmouseover="zoom_on(event,350,350,'Coins/georgev/1936reva.jpg');" onmousemove="zoom_move(event);" onmouseout="zoom_off();"><img src="Coins/georgev/1936reva.jpg" alt="1936 Farthing Zoom Profile" style="padding:0;margin:0;border:0" width="350" height="350" /></div> <div style="clear:both;"> Thats just for 1 image! so with over 400 farthings in total so far to go on the site....... Its the image size behind it im looking at just now. each image at present is nearly 1mb so they take time to load, which is why i want to reduce them a bit as well. There is a program called magiczoom on the internet that you have to pay for and it gives a better quality zoom feature but i dont like it as the image behind it needs to be huge or it is all grainy, I have looked at three different zoom products and made a few changes here and there to come up with that one. Anyone who wants it can have it! Keep the feedback coming as i want to get this right. Cheers
