  1. Thanks for the update Derek, I can't wait for the book to be released. Mark
  2. I have had in my change the 1p 2p 5p 10p and 20p and they all have the year 2008 on the obverse side. They have been officially released otherwise you would not see them in your change. I'm not to keen on the new designs myself, they seem to have lost all personality, not that the decimal coins had much anyway. Do you like the new desgins Carl? Mark
  3. Hi Mark, Welcome to the love affair with half crowns - don't resist! If you've managed to get eveything from Edward VII in UNC them you're either very lucky or very rich, or both. A genuinely BU circulation 1911 is proving the Holy Grail at the moment. Plenty of them out there almost make it, but so far none has come up to scratch (or non-scratch). Plenty of 1911 proofs (which I have) too, but no really top notch circulation issues. I have seen a couple of near BU 1905s recently, but they came with a price to match. Fine if you're on a premiership footballer's salary, but I guess the average premiership player isn't up to appreciating coins. G I understand that the half crown is not everyone’s cup of tea so to speak, but you like what you like. The half dollar as it was, just does something to me. There’s nothing better than pulling out a tray(s) with some weight to it. Unfortunately for me Gary I am not a football player and most of my half crowns at the moment fall into the G V, G VI and E II category, although I do have a couple of E VII in VF. As with most of us we start off buying anything and everything, I am now content with collecting the half crown, florin and the brass threepence as my main areas for concern (as my wife puts it). Mark
  4. I prefer using an Excel spreadsheet. Mark
  5. Thanks Chris received the book today, very impressive as usual, well worth the money. Mark

    Hello

    Welcome to the board. Mark
  7. April 10th is Good Friday. I understand that Easter is only a possible release date, just wanted to check your not sitting there twiddling your thumbs Mark
  8. [quote name='Red Riley' post='30334' date='Sep 23 2008, 05:30 PM' So there you are, it won't be available for Christmas, but will make a darned good Easter present!
  9. Chris Just sent the payment. Thanks Mark
  10. I am slowly being drawn into a love affair with the Half Crown myself, especially Edward VII and George V. I have a total of 47 Unc. so far ranging from Edward VII to Elizabeth II my favourites at the moment being 1914 to 1918 and 1939 to 1945 obviously signifying the two world wars. Mark
  11. Chris I would like to place an order for the 2009 printed edition, I take it I follow the same procedure (Paypal). Thanks Mark
  12. Why don't they do something interesting like collecting coins instead of writing spam programs etc.
  13. Thanks Bob and Dg43 With this dipping of the coin has it devalued the coin considerably and in time would the coin not go back to its original state. Thanks Mark
  14. I am currently bidding on Ebay for a 1935 Halfcrown. The seller states that the coin could have been cleaned but from the pictures nothing stands out to me that the coin has being cleaned. Can anyone point out anything that I have missed. Thanks
  15. I've pre-ordered a copy on Amazon.
  16. I totally agree Chris.
  17. Chris I received the 2 halfcrowns today that I ordered, thank you. I notice a leaflet in the jiffy advertising the new Rotographic book due for release in early 2009 'The Standard Guide to Grading British Coins'. This sound like a great book and I for one will definitely be purchasing a copy. Is there anyway I can place an order for the book now? The leaflet states that you can register an interest at www.rotograhic.com but I can't see anywhere on the website that mentions the new book. One question I do have and that is will it be a hardback book. Thanks Mark
  18. Welcome aboard Carlin.
  19. Looks a great book, only wish I could afford it.
  20. I recently purchased two FDC half crowns, they both contain a finger print. Is it possible to clean the coins with anything to remove the finger prints. I don’t even dare clean the coin with just a cloth in case it makes the coins worse. Any ideas? Mark
  21. I take it you got 3 points for Christmas then Chris.
  22. I don't blame you Bob, your've done your time for Queen and Country (sorry Bob, President and Country ). Numismatically my New Year's resolution is to concentrate of GB silver coins and to complete my brass threepence collection. I need 2 to complete E-II and 14 to complete G-VI. I currently have 17 E-II and 5 G-VI. Am I correct in the totals to collect 19 E-II and 19 G-VI? Mark
  23. I know I shouldn't have left a post late on new years eve. My eyes were not focusing at there best. I have managed to get hold of a proof for £6 on Ebay (thanks Clive for the direction) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1953-U-K-Threepence-...1QQcmdZViewItem Happy new year Mark
  24. Sorry Chris, It's the one with the I pointing to the corner I am looking for.
  25. A Happy New Year to everyone. I know I'm 15 minutes early but this will be the last chance I will get for an hour or so.
