  1. Great coins and outstanding pics. Thanks for sharing.
  2. Beautiful coin. Congrats.
  3. I honestly don't have such a story to tell. Since my emphasis when I was young was coins from circulation (late 1950s and 1960s), I made a killing when I sold my collection in the mid-70s for a down payment on my house. I also sold a bunch of dupes/junk silver coins and bars when silver hit it's peak in 1980.
  4. Looks like the whole date on this is doubled.
  5. Great coins. I'd surely keep both.
  6. That's a super looking coin.
  7. There have been a few coins over the last year that light. Weird....
  8. Time to "polish" up some of my Churchill Crowns.
  9. IS 50p really worthwhile as a forgery? Reminds me of the US nickels that were forged back in the 40's/50's almost no profit at all.
  10. Best of luck with the site. I've signed up -- those giveaways are outstanding. Your baby is beautiful and of course you have may congratulations and very best wishes for her and your whole family.
  11. Dang! That is pretty rare in that condition.
  12. Sounds like a good time was had by all. Great finds.
  13. Congrats! Enjoy the study at Durham
  14. I've got a small collection of 6d and 3d coins. I really like them. The 1914 is a beauty. Most of mine from that time period are well worn. I also have a mini-set I'm gathering of the 3d and 6d from each country in the world that has issued those denominations. Not too easy to fill that one.
  15. Great coin. It's got to be difficult to go that long without adding to one of your main collections.
  16. There was a street vendor in San Francisco some years ago that made rings like this from Half Dollars and Dollars. He first cut a round disk out of the center, about the size of a dime. Then the coin was forced onto a sizing bar until the hole was stretched to the right size. After that he hammered the edge until it took on a ring shape. You could get an extrenal design or just leave the coin showing. I have a few made of Liberty Walking Halfs.
  17. Hello! Just found my way back here after a long absence.
  18. Gold plated Ikes and Kennedys were used for many years in slot machines in Las Vegas. I have several of each. They make great pocket pieces.
  19. There's a 2005 Spinks on ebay right now. The current bid is pretty reasonable as are the US shipping charges. You might want to take a look.
  20. There are a number of great books that could help. My favorites are: Collectors' Coins of Great Britain. Spinks' Coins of England and the United Kingdom CoinCraft Standard Catalog of Coins of the United Kingdom The CCGB is more up to date on pricing than the CoinCraft. I believe 2000 was the last year it was issued. I know that there's a 2005 Spinks and CCGB. The books can sometimes be found on ebay, amazon, etc. from US shippers. The S&H from the UK can be as much or more than the book.
  21. Happy 21st. I hope that you enjoyed your day. Good luck shopping at the fair.
  22. What a great treasure and found to boot. Congratulations.
  23. Great ancients. It's an area of collecting that calls me often, but alas it remains rather low on my priority list.
