  1. try this... http://www.predecimal.com/forum/index.php?;act=Members
  2. i had a scout around and found it myself!
  3. I take it validating will be those that Chris is approving? Nice to have the 'expert members' staffroom to myself, but i find it gets a little crowded at times...
  4. Chris... I think it's about time Geoff was upgraded to an 'expert member'! 'validating'? i must have missed that! I got upgraded early on because i was one of the few of the early members that hung on and still checks the site out, that and i think i answered quite alot of questions back then, but Geoff seems to beat me to it these days!
  5. Or problems with minor varities of Charles II sixpences?
  6. There's one in Huddersfield a bit like that, except he's just stark raving mad, or at least he pretends to be? Always asks for money which you know he's going to spend on booze because he reeks of the stuff. Usually a bottle of Scotch or something. Funny how his coat and clothes change though, so he's obviously not homeless, despite the fact that he stinks like he's not had a bath in a considerable period of time. Oh and he shouts at cars and lamposts.
  7. Yes it's red X on mine? Is it just me?
  8. Yes the red-X does suit you...
  9. I think Eliza's gone missing!
  10. I see more 1971 2ps, although i believe more pennies were actually minted.
  11. There a damn sight more frequently encountered than anything that's just ubiquitous! Can't move for tripping over the things...
  12. Probably because it's a funny URL with ?'s and php extentions. must be that Chris, though i could have sworn it worked the other week... oh well!
  13. if they don't work, then i'll direct you via a different method. And Chris it won't let me put the tags around it...
  14. I like the William IV stuff, i also like it because he's one of our forgotten monarchs. I dunno if the 1937 ones are proofs or not, and there's a 1937 florin as well. I had a picture somewhere... http://www.coinpeople.com/forums/album_pic...php?pic_id=1470 http://www.coinpeople.com/forums/album_pic...php?pic_id=1471
  15. nope nothing worth bothering with. It's just all the old junk i collected when i first started out, times have changed, i've moved on. But it'd be nice for anyone who was just starting out and wanted some cheaper coins. The only coins i will ever now buy dated after 1816 are the following... Godless/gothic florins/crowns. (Preferably VF+) Edward VII Florins (all EF+) Sixpences of all kinds and dates (all Unc+). Anything William IV (all VF+) London mint Shield reverse sovereigns (all VF+) Coins dated 1887. (UNC+) And that's it, but i'm not going to actively collect those, except maybe for the sixpences. Hopefully one day i'll be able to throw out all the other denominations and have just a cabinate full of every major sixpence from 1674-1970! ah a dream...)
  16. I could be interested in your dead wood - tell me more! Geoff I doubt it... Only thing i've got that might interest you is a small incomplete set of sterling silver George V halfcrowns, dated... 1912 (F) 1914 (F) 1915 x 2 (VF) 1916 (F) and 1918 (GVF+) Please note i'm not very good at grading these things! I also had a cleaned? 1902 florin in GF a 1912 florin in AVF, 1937 florin in UNC (MAY BE A PROOF ACTUALLY, BUT SINCE I DIDN'T BUY IT I CAN'T REMEMBER EXACTLY) 1966 threepence in unc. Also a Geo VI halfcrown and crown of 1937, these are UNC (possibly proofs) but show some slight PVC damage to the fields. A 1951 Crown in UNC with its red box and certificate, plus a spare certificate. And a 1970 english shilling, a scottish shilling and a florin. Also some low grade farthings that i inherited, 1897, 1900 and 1921. Plus a 1932 penny in Fine. I think that's about it really that i want to lose for now. That would leave me with about 30 coins dating after 1816 that aren't sixpences that i'm gonna keep for now.
  17. Ah at last another Machin fan! Great design that was, i bet £2 coins would have looked good Machinified. I like how Jersey and Co kept Machin's on after 1985!
  18. roughly 100 or so for me, but i've been trimming out the dead wood, (interpret that as coins dated 1816+) Got a good deal more to dissipate, hopefully the good collection will drop to about 60 or 70 specimens, with the major type/date collections dropping into the below 50 category.. for now.
  19. Maklouf at his best again. Does anyone else out there think that the obverse of our coins from 1985-1997 is rubbish?
  20. This sounds familiar, i remember lying when my parents asked how much that 1688 half guinea was, i said (unbelievibly!) £70, they went "how much! are you mad? stop wasting you're money" ...it's a good job i didn't tell them it really cost me £225 hey?
  21. I've got about 6 of em... Rather low mintage figure that year. But if you want rare then you can't beat a 1985 50p coin. (i did see the odd one, but very rarely) only beaten by the 1992 (which i never saw)... 1985 = 682,103 1992 = 109,000 now compared to all the others they are small!
  22. Yes they are very rare those 1953 sets! I still fancy the idea of an Empress Matilda coin though...
  23. Hang on a minute having re-read your post, just pennies? So that George III - Elizabeth II, ha even better!
  24. Clever move! That means you only have to worry about James I - Charles II, William & Mary - Elizabeth II So you can snip off Egbert - Elizabeth I and James II!
  25. I'd like to stress that also actually, having studied Archaeology!
