  1. I've been given new passwords but they don't work. I'll just have to go 'off line' for the period I'm away!
  2. I've been trying for about an hour to set up my lap top to be able to log on from remote locations.(I'm having a weekend away). It doesn't recognise my id or passwoed and has me re-registering! Without success may I add. It gave me a new ID and validation key (3 times) and promptly said the ID does not exist!!! Are you having trouble or am I thick??
  3. I thought that the cartweel series was based on the penny being 1 oz of copper and the two pence, 2 ozs??
  4. Hi! Sue If you have Paintshop Pro try this. In PSP click on 'new' set the size to-say-1000 x 500 Open one coin pic and, using the selection tool, frame, cut and paste as a 'new selection'. Open the next coin pic and do the same, putting it next to the first. You can then cut and paste 'as new image' then save wherever you wish! Hope this helps?
  5. You've made me think!! With the government hell bent on legislating for everything, will it be long bfore saving "English" coins will become a crime and we must include all nationalities or be thrown in gaol. -(note the "English" spelling of incarceration!)

I thought there were ways of chemically treating coins to "appear" aged. Don't some of the coins seen on e-bay look too good??
  7. Not English!! The closest I've come to the emblem of a shieve of arrows is on Spanish 25 centimos coins of the 1930's. But they are milled and I think this is hammered.
  8. Why does there seem to be little interest in Hammered coins on the forum? I've thrown a couple of pebbles into the pond with little result. Everyone semms hooked on the "pretty" milled stuff. The field of Numismatics is so vast, you'ld think there would be a wider spread of discussion!?! Here's another coin I'm trying to ascribe. I've seen a number of these appear on e-bay and no-one has tried to identify them. Any thoughts?
  9. Here is a coin that has had me baffled for over a year. I've tried various sources without success. I've been told it's variously, Celtic, Indian, Byzantine and part of a decoration. 17 m.m. X 16 m.m. and bronze, thin flan. Can anyone help?
  10. Hey! Don't you lot start buying in my stomping ground. I can't afford to compete!!
  11. I liked the Diggers and the carpet people best. Aren't we sad!!
  12. You've guessed it. I'm a closet fan! But I still have the box!
  13. Her's an interesting one! I thought it probably is from the Eastern Mediterranian. The obverse is reminicent of Byzantine!
  14. How do you get the quote out of that box and under the e-mail address??
  15. How about this one then! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW
  16. Try this website to see how many people you can make resembling Bush. http://uk.download.yahoo.com/ne/fu/attachm...abetterbush.htm
  17. I think the trouble with politics in the west is the party system. If we had local representatives truly giving the views of local people in a national forum, we may get down to democracy! But don't hold your breath! There are too many vested interests out there.
  18. Thanks! "Not a lot of people know that"!!
  19. Thanks kuhli. I had doubts about the Tibet assignment but 'no speaka da lingo' doesn't help!! I can now label the thing. Any idea why it's so irregular being 1838 it must be milled!
  20. Once more I'm in the dark! Could this be a bronze of Tibet? I can't read the legend (of course!) but the lion looks very like those shown in "World Coins" on coins of the 20th century, but this looks hammered to me. Any thoughts?
  21. I previously requested the help of the forum to identify an apparent Edward I hammered penny showing SCOT in the legend. Reference to Tully House's Tim Padley refered me to the British Museum and Dr. Cook. He has sent me a long letter solving the mystery. It is an Sterling of William of Namur in imitation of current Edward pennies to replace these in circulation in the principality, thus retaining the profits. The legend reads:- obverse; EDWILLELMVSCOMVB and the reverse; NAM VRG ENS IS+ Hope this interests some of you?
  22. Seems that the Royal Mint is a VERY successful business!!
  23. I'm about to shock! I use CD 'crystal cases' with inserts made from three layers of polystyrene wall liner, suitably cut with holes to fit the coins by means of a small soldering iron. So far, no adverse affects. Perhaps someone will shoot this method down, but it is very convenient when the cases are kept in a CD tower!
  24. I asked Richard at coinsforus but he has no idea either! What with the Edward I and this one I'm not having much success. Perhaps I should take up knitting!
  25. As a regular purchaser on e-bay, I differ from most of the opinions expressed about grading. Anyone who accepts anothers grading is asking for trouble! I am different from most other collectors in that I prefer a circulated coin before an uncirculated specimen kept in a bank for the last few hundred years. Handling a coin that could have been held by Boudicca or Charles I gives me the 'buzz'. But then I can't afford the 'pretty' versions anyway!
