  1. Well I never.... a Counterfeit living or occurring at the same time, I did go an have a look see CooooooooL! The Treason Act 1415 (4 Hen. 5. Stat. 1. c. 6) was an Act of the Parliament of England which made clipping coins high treason, punishable by death. (It was already treason to counterfeit coins. ) The act was repealed by the Treason Act 1553, and then revived again in 1562. The act originally only protected English coins, but was later extended in 1575 to cover foreign coins "current" within England........ Also..... Treason is perhaps the most infamous crime in English Legal History, due in part to the horrendous punishment that came with it but also due to its often strong political importance. The punishment that was often inflicted was the drawing of the traitor across rough ground by horse, he would then be hanged to within an inch of death, followed by being disembowelled, burnt, and beheaded. Your remaining carcass was cut into four pieces. The punishment of being hung, drawn and quartered has morbidly captured the public’s imagination for many centuries. Bloody heck!
  2. obverse side,
  3. Firstly, Many thanks & apologies, Thank you goes without explaining, its a great help since all that I'm having to deal with since the stroke, Having the coins has been useful as I needed to focus on an interest and helps keep my head working and a nice distraction. Apologies, before it happens I hope that all I have shown over the last few days isn't becoming a plague of a misdirection and uninteresting gathers hoard that is I guess a magpie approach to formulating what could be loosely be called a collection. all I can now say is let see what we can do with this in the near future ......Really I do thank you for of this. so the first sheet was completed with 1 fake so far so good. enjoying the history lesson and being able to show what I've found over the years. these I think are pretty safe, 1676 Charles II Silver Crown 1892 Victoria Sliver Crown both are dinged and rubbed, the Victoria I really like the tone, the Charles it seems to have writing around the outer edge and Ive really just noted, is this just on this coin or other? your opinions will be really welcome, I can take the bad with the good / great news, if you happen to know the value please do tell.
  4. Ah, no wasn't me, and yes kept just in case it comes in handy..... on one Sunday afternoon trudging around a hot field looking at stalls that are best described as one stop away a rubbish dump... I happen upon a paste table with carrier bags loaded with bones... turns out the fella is house clearance service and a loft at a doctors house was cleared, all sorts of medical equipment and.... stuff was sold. last knockings at 3pm find what you want and make an offer..... my kinda chat! so skull was sold to his mate and the rest had to go as his wife didn't want it back in the house...by order! so manage to find the right hand and with £3.20p to my name a deal was done!
  5. following on from yesterdays failing of the.... "this I believe to be 40 Pence Scotland Charles I 1625-49, XL 3rd coinage ?" yes! I was a bit miffed and I was really distracted by the an another questionable coin that I remembered just as I prepared for sleep...... I mulled it over and decided to tell and show even though I'd already decided to show all the silver coins first before moving on. So it was purchased from a online auction place..... it was 2002? the seller had only one listed, he was employed as a furniture reupholster, it was a antique sofa type of furniture that been around for ever, the owner had jokingly said that he could keep any coins if he happened to find behind it, I remember although it meant nothing to me that it was made with horse hair and sack seat and when ripping it apart the coin had been found.... now he said he was reputable kind of person and when collected after being restored he asked if it was all right to keep any coins that he had found? the owner laughed and said yes you keep the change as a tip!!!! result? so now, I seem to think that the owner before had it checked out and it was genuine...... 23 ish years on I guess I better get it checked out....is this been matter of Fact or Fiction? Once again many thanks for the help. Rgds "H"
  6. Awwwwwwwwwwww! bummer! oh well 50p ventured nothing gained and hence why it was buried in a mix change lot, aww well another day...another dollar.... Many thanks for taking time out and updating whats wrong with the right, Rgds "H"
  7. Hello all, with this coin I have held back with showing, its in much better condition and have always question if its a copy? this I believe to be 40 Pence Scotland Charles I 1625-49, XL 3rd coinage ? another thing that whilst I looked in to the service of this coin Falconers and Briots I've seen mentioned but still need to know more, is this mint related? please advise. again I think it was a boot fair around the 90's it was a mixed of 1950's and foreign coinage, so not a big purchase........... maybe as much as 50p. please do have a look and see what you think, many thanks "H"
  8. Today I'd like to share 2x six pence added, Ive really had a good look into these and hopefully these are right ish. 1566 Queen Elizabeth I six pence King Charles I. (Stuart (VI) six pence, CHRISTO AUSPICE REGNO “I reign with Christ as my protector" Reign 27 March 1625 – 30 January 1649 was a king of England, Scotland and Ireland, whose conflicts with parliament and his subjects led to civil war and his execution, beheaded in London, England, on January 30, 1649..... Wow! .
  9. Awesome, it probably would have been boot car finds in the early 1990's, a few £ each, oh and I also picked up a Human hand for £3.20p Many thanks Stuart. I'm keeping a label with each of them so the next family member will at least be of interest for them.
  10. Its a Figure of speech by me, "Cool Junk" I have many Items that I wouldn't part with and will be showing some items, I'm so interested in the coins that I have and how the heck was the coins trackable with so much going on? and really Many thanks for the help, I did get around to a close up of the 1571, hope fully this will help answer the question about the mint.
  11. I forgot to mention, I did notice the tudor rose to the right of the coins with the faces dated 1591 & the 1571, interesting (for me as just only noticed)
  12. Redemption required, This (I hope) is the worse of the worse finished with, at least by todays offerings, the collecting? is to be honest must be the most un organised, random assembly of "why the heck did he get that!?!??!?" entertainment ! 😁 so I think we have 1591 James VI (seen better days) J758 George II VF 1571 Elizabeth I (knackered?) please be gentle with me........
  13. Its been an enjoyable time picking up things over the years, worn out, rubbed and in normally a box of others that have been sift through by them who are farther better in the know... these i think were just planted there to sell on to the naive "these are worth a fortune !" I wouldn't have paid that much for them as I do like old, history and a good haggle! even for the scrap ?!?!?!. I would like to think that moving on with the show and tell some real Gem's will appear in this random and varied assembly of....Cool Junk! one story Sad but True! I was at an antiques fair talking to a medal dealer that I've know for ages, chap turns up and asks, "Do you buy coins mate?" Medal dealer, "I have done over the years, if you have them with you can I take a look?" a Large A4 Folder was plonked on a glass display cabinet with no consideration of the cabinet..... ok so MD open the first page and looks "ok!" turns page "ermmm" is this the same coin all the way through?" Chap says gleefully " Yes!!!" & I've another folder full of them!" MD says " Many thanks, not for me!" now at this point Chap gets a little irate "Whats the matter? Ive collected all of these since it was 1977! don't you want to make an offer???"........ it seems hes touted it around all the coin dealers (x2) and now chanced his arm with everyone else stalled up who may be interested in a job lot of 1977 Silver Jubilee Nickle coin. 40 years on (I think it was 2017) the chap believe that these were worth a fortune, I do understand why he was a bit miffed that they weren't worth anything after all the time and money he spent on them, I don't think his retirement plan had worked out as well as he had hoped,.............Sad but True. once again Stuart......Many thanks fella, rgds "H"
  14. Hello, Today I may get to have this right. George the III 1762 3 pence Maundy George the IIII 1836 4 pence ? Following Input also welcome. It has now crossed my mind that I should be thinking of valuation, Not for the purpose of selling, more about as this has accumulated over the years I've never been concerned by insurance. I will also will need to make others in the family aware as the inheritor's of "the hoard" will have to deal with such matters later on in life. many thanks for all of the the previous e-mails its really been a boost in my life and all the help has really assisted me with something that I wasn't able to get by with on my own. Rgds "H"

  20. Many thanks, these last 2 days has been of a great help and direction, wrongly I thought the groats were older one Henry III penny is dated 1232-34, so made up that this is so old, once again many thanks one and all with this new information, I really couldnt have done this by myself, Rgds "H"
  21. Stuart your a gent, this has help no end to untie a mystery and now I will now try to identify a coin before showing more. allowing for the rubbed coin I think it looks like 1232-34 date, and wow I'm guessing its the eldest so far that I have in my collection so far , once again many thanks "H"
  22. Many thanks Stuart, is there a way to date or is it a general date that the coin Henry III was around 1 October 1207 – 16 November 1274 The short cross coinage came to an end in 1247. No recoinage had been undertaken since the renovation of 1205, some forty-two years earlier, and the circulating currency had progressively deteriorated to the point where it was in a completely unacceptable condition. Not only were the coins generally very worn, but more significantly many were also clipped. The authorities recognised that the only solution was a complete recoinage, and this was duly ordered. In an attempt to address the problem of clipping, it was decided that the design would be changed such that the reverse cross extended to the edge of the coin. The resulting issue, known today as the long cross coinage, is the subject of a separate article. many thanks once again. "H"
