Halfpenny ID check
Bruce replied to mrbadexample's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Thank you Jerry for sharing all above lovely halfpennies in your collection. 200% agree that you won't dispose it, coz taking it out and have a look is already a big enjoyment. Cheers, and thanks again for your sharing. -
HA often have some ridiculous hammered price about UK coins, totally no idea why.
-
Thank you Ian for sharing your gorgeous penny, and it is always nice to learn something new. Cheers, and have a nice weekend ahead.

After working for a full day, I can have a look at my coin again😆. And yes Ian, it seems match all your descriptions. The 1848/7 overdate is with 7 towards the front of 8; D"EI" are with protrusions; "B"RIT and D"E"F both are similar to your photos. I have a close-up look to the FID":" again, and suspect the circle is the place where the upper dot is missing (sorry for poor quality photo). Is it where the dot should be taken place in your specimen?
-
Thanks Ian for detailed explanation, I will try to check later when back to home to see if match your findings. For the missing dot in colon, I initially suspect whether there's any trace of tooling coz the area around is a bit darker.

Bought an interesting 1848/7 Penny, would like to learn whether the FID. on reverse, instead of FID:, is common.

Paypal vs Credit Card
Bruce replied to 1949threepence's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
According to my experience, paypal usually charge a higher rate, but it still depends on what platform the seller is using to accept credit card. Some are higher and some are less. Take Shopify as example, it is usually a bit less expensive than paypal, but the difference won't be too much. -

Sorry to hear about that n feel your pain. I experienced the similar issue few weeks ago. Seller sent items at Newcastle, n the track history showing it's accepted n due to despatch to Heathrow. But then, no scan update for almost 2 weeks. I initially thought it may down to pandemic situation so international delivery to Hong Kong was seriously delayed. Finally, i email royal mail n ask why there was no update n whether there was any problem regarding customs or else, they had no reply, but luckily the tracking was updated again few days later after the email. Wish you will receive the penny in few days n good luck. -

Penny Acquisition of the week

Actually I didn't make any purchase, but I visited the coin shop and ask my friend to borrow an image of 1874 Halfpenny for learning purpose. By referring to Richard's site, it's die 7J. Am I correct? -
Found so many 1933 penny in a year, she must be a millionaire now🤣
-
That's my concern since having it on hand. By the way, just measure it again, it's 14.1g and 32.1mm, so should be within the tolerance.

I bought this 1879 Halfcrown from ebay months ago, and found date style of this one is a bit different from other 1879 Halfcrown, don't know whether it is down to worn or not. Would like to seek advice from other members if this coin has problem. Thanks.

You 2 are both expert, 1843 is a bit higher than £50 while 1856 is slightly lower than £140, so average out it is about the same as per estimation. I love the 1856 as well, although some scratches on reverse. 1849 penny is the next target. I've seen 1 in auction months ago, but was outbidded. So, have to wait n search again.
