I suppose you are right, I shall give it a miss.

Just had a look at that certifiedgbcoins for the first time, and some of the farthings are quite exeptional...but the prices could be a little lower (1890 Farthing MS65RD £150!)... There are three coins that are really tempting; This (to go with my new 1754/0 farthing) www.certifiedgbcoins.com/Farthing%20Coin%20Pages/Farthing%201754.htm and www.certifiedgbcoins.com/Farthing%20Coin%20Pages/Farthing%201895%20Bun%20Head.htm ..a bit pricey, but do you think that they would be worth 'breaking out of their slab' for my collection?
-
Slabbed coins are inside a hard plastic case which is very hard to break open. Coins in slabs have their type and grade printed on the slab (example)... I personally do not like them.

The three best sites (in my opinion) for buying coins are Predecimal, Colin Cooke Coins, and Online-coins. Predecimal is best though of course...

? ... Edit: Oh, that...that was what my dad bought a while ago (not sure why!)...

Tip: The book has the bright 1918 farthing above the dark 1918 farthing, it would be better the other way round because otherwise it goes: 1917 Dark 1918 Bright 1918 Dark 1919 Bright -
As you are in Italy (I presume) I would recomend getting the mint sets. But if you want more of a challenge I would recomend getting the individual coins.

The price in dollars ($) is far greater than the price in pounds (£)... example: Item Number: 4060 Price: £25 ($US 47.50) ...surely thats a bit OTT? Edit: I take that comment back...didn't realist the exchange rate was so high compared to what it was on a mock maths paper from 1997.

All 1997 £2's are with the queen wearing a necklace. In 1998 onwards, the necklace was not used. And welcome.

1848-1859 Farthings
Master Jmd replied to Master Jmd's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Unless the die was repaired at some time, it would be imposible to have jsut one die with a first A in BRITANNIA barred and the other unbarred on one instance, and vice versa in the other instance... Well...when I get to Victorian Copper Farthings, barred and unbarred A's will probably be a giant feat -

1848-1859 Farthings
Master Jmd replied to Master Jmd's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
But again take the 1856 E/R variety, on one instance the coin is with the First A of BRITANNIA unbarred, and on another it is the Last A of BRITANNIA unbarred. This would mean that two different dies were used for creating the 1856 E/R farthing, is more than one die normally used (is that a silly question, I am not sure!)? This also occurs with 1858 large date, which is also the rare type if I remember correctly. And 1858 small date to add to that. -
Welcome Neill, I hope you enjoy restarting your collecting. Just so you know me; I collect pretty much all types of UK farthings 1656-1956 with the exeption of SOHO and Patterns of 1660-1670.

1848-1859 Farthings
Master Jmd replied to Master Jmd's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
About 1hr 10mins...I thought that I might asm well use that time to do something creative... I don't have any reference books of farthings. I created the list from looking at various pictures from Colin Cooke, Ebay, Predecimal and a few more. There are four A varieties within the 1856 E/R Farthing which is extremely rare. Why strike it more than once? -

Coins Stolen in Robbery - Surrey, UK
Master Jmd replied to Andy Bruce's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
That is a lot of moneys worth there! I doubt that they would appear for a few years yet as Oli said. I shall keep my eye out for any of them. -
After looking at my 1853 and 1857 farthings, I noticed that the A's in BRITANNIAR and VICTORIA are unbarred. I have now looked at other copper farthings and noticed that all farthings between 1848 and 1859 have these unbarred A's. This is strange as the A's in GRATIA are barred. Is there any known reason for this?
-
I have not yet found a 4-Minute mile one. I have NHS, Public Libraries, EU, Suffragettes and the 1973 EEC ones. I have all commem £2's after 1997, I am not really interested in the peace dove or the other one prior to 1997 as I would have to pay (all my decimal coins have been accumulated in my spare change).

I do use Ebay sometimes, but it is quite hard to locate BU farthings on Ebay.
