  1. Well well well 21 today! Hope you treated yourself to a coin or two! Have a great day!
  2. Yes, but none the less hope you had a great day today!
  3. My dada had a lucky escape. He got off his train at Kings Cross just minutes before it was bombed. He heard the explosion just as he was walking out of the station. 33 comfirmed dead so far but that's expected to soar.
  4. The people in charge of the London bid have shown great resiliance in face of Paris! Congratulations to them! They did us proud!
  5. Happy Birthday Geordie! Hope you treated yourself with some coins!
  6. Ooooh yes please Mafanweh!
  7. I cringe as I remember the workload of year 11.
  8. Hello everyone. What do you make of this? It looks to me like an impaired silver proof halfpenny. The fields are clear and the strike is very deep. I know that a silver proof halfpenny is not listed for 1862 but it looks rather convincing to me... 1862 halfpenny Jon.
  9. Have a great day! Enjoy it!
  10. I'll be glad to focus again on halfpennies but also gather other values. I think copper/bronze is very undervalued at the moment especially halfpennies and farthings but pennies are seeing huge increases.
  11. Aaaah good point Sylvester that may make my case stronger.
  12. Today I went to London on a museum trail... The day started off with a trip to the Bank of England Museum. I was very impressed with their displays of coins through the centurys. They had some beautiful coins to name a few: Gold Proof 1935 Crown (a gem to see!) Proof 1957 sovereign BU 1912 H penny 1826 gold proofs 1839 Una 5 pounds (very impaired) 1839 proof set (WOW!!) UNC five guineas pieces! Next I went to the coincraft shop to see if any new stock had come in. After browsing the pitiful displays, I started talking to Richard Lobel. I asked him if he had the Edward VIII set and he said very plainly 'maybe'...i then replied 'you lucky man' to which he said 'you can never have enough', very true indeed. After the coincraft shop I popped across the road to the British museum which I was quite disapointed with. Their focus was on world coinage so there were only a few British items on display. I asked the very polite and rather mindblowing receptionist how to make an appointment to view the collection and she told me to write to the curator and plea for an appointment. She also said that I would have a better chance of getting an appointment if it was for educational purposes (eg. a school project etc.). I'm going to write to him but I'm going to be very open with him and just say that I'm an interestred numismatist All in all a good day out!
  13. thanks very much custard! Will have to think about it though, £150 is a lot of money to a teenager...and I've got to think about the opportunity cost.
  14. Ouch, in that case I may have to wait a while.
  15. Yes i know but I think its about time I purchased one...
  16. Hello everyone, I really need a peck preferably the second edition. Has anyone got one that I could perhaps purchase? Jon.
  17. Ditto, at last we'll be treated like adults! The fact that we can go to town every lunch dosent come into it
  18. Haha, in some instances that may be true. My Business and Food Technology exams could have been done by 3 year olds and I am Higher Tier! However, my Chemistry and Physics exams were evil! My dad seems to think that exams were harder in 'his day' too lol
  19. Do your invigilators always patronise you? I'm so fed up with the fat b**ch...i mean the invigilatoress mouthing every word over and over again at the beginning of each exam as if we were three years old and taking a basic skills test.
  20. You just had one? We have THREE. The first is on the Treaty of Versailles, the League of Nations and the Cold War, the second is on Germany and America 1918-1945, and the final one which I'll be doing tomorrow is on Vietnam and "The changing role and status of women in the 20th century". We had two history exams. The first one was examining content on Medicine through time, and Elizabeth I. That was kind of ok but the thing that realli peeved me off is that the major stuff that everyone spent so much time revising didnt come up in the paper!!!
  21. Ooh you lucky thing. I've got my final History paper on Friday. Our history paper was evil! Our entire exam was based on the monasteries and we did one lesson on them!!!
  22. Nay! I'm staying on at sixth form, i do have some aspirations you know! But I've got 9 weeks of summer sun and I dont intend to waste it!
  23. These days you could just use cillit bang! That stuff's nasty! Btw my exams are finished!!! Im freeeeeeeeeeee. plan to go to both the british museum and the bank of england museum soon! wahey!!!
  24. I guess thats one form of cheap advertising!
