Blimey. I just bought my first coin from him. Very pleased with it, but it's big league for me. I don't think I paid over the odds, but what do I know? I'm strictly a beginner with coins over £50. I'll do a photo tomorrow and put it up, and you lot can tell me how much I should have paid!

Blinkin' fathers day. eBay's been decidedly flat. Barely managed to sell half of what I sold last Sunday. On the plus side I did manage to get a Gouby X for £22. I suspect I'd have paid more if it hadn't been blinkin' fathers day.

Ah Mr Silvertrader. I bought a lovely first effigy 1926 halfcrown from you not so very long ago. And I got stung for £23 VAT the other day - my first ever one. That was 20% too, not 5%. 'Course I paid it and kept shtum like a twit.

The coin itself looks a bit polished. The feature on the edge looks like a bit of metal overflow that escaped the collar and has folded back over the milled edge. Oh, well, that's a plus - at least it's not post-mint. I'm sure it has had a buff too, Nick - probably by the dipper. An overdipping drip would have been worse though, I think. Just one of my many duff-photo gambles that didn't pay off!

I used to do that for a living too Gary. (Server support, I mean, not breaking coconuts..! ) One night my boss rang me up about 9pm in a panic because he'd been putting a new drive into a server (Novell NetWare 3.11 days, mind!) and did a straight bit copy from the old to the new with ARCServe. But he'd done it the wrong way around so it had immediately overwritten the entire company data with the contents of the empty drive, i.e. nothing. There were only 2 of us running the IT for about 200 users, so I went straight to the chip shop and we had to do an all-nighter to get everything restored from tape before the next morning. They didn't notice...so mission accomplished!

As an aside, this seems to be a great forum to pick up trustworthy sellers of coins who are genuinely interested in their stock. Just got some small bits from Chris today and he put in more than I ordered because of the cost of postage, that's not something that has happened to me very often! As a newish to buying coins person (who was getting a bit disheartened reading about all the 'chancers' out there), this forum/website is very encouraging so thanks all, take a bow. Real coinies are generally good sorts, Woodsman! We all trade, to a certain extent, but we're all collectors at heart.
