  1. That particular mob have had stupid prices for years. I'm not sure this is down to slabbing....greed has more to do with it, I feel.....
  2. I love the fact that it was intended to be called 'King George 111', but they genuinely believed that Americans would think they had missed the first two films and so they changed the name......
  3. I've spent the evening with a chisel and a box of After Eights.....
  4. 1880, right hand side with half of the sea and exergual line missing- grease?
  5. Oh- there was going to be lots of pennies- great pennies, none made in China CHINAH, I'm very knowledgeable about pennies, I'm a great collector, all pennies, but I looked at the Auction list and there are strangely hardly any... I DEMAND A RECOUNT!
  6. Exactly. You have to work out whether the sides of the bristles are knocking off deposits that will crumble bit by bit, or the tips are eroding a deposit slowly, therefore requiring a bristle whose material hardness lies between the hardness of the deposit and the metal substrate. That's why brass works so well on bronze, but is a big no no for copper.....
  7. Was the wire brush steel? Brass brushes work wonders, particularly if you choose the correct one as regards the softness....
  8. I always leave the top of a piece of sea bass in a restaurant - I don't believe the old fairy stories, so I don't like crumpled fish skin....
  9. The most pleasing puns are those that are really contrived.....my wife is very impressed with it..... so good to admire the process rather than just the end result......!
  10. Yes, thank you, but no luck- I've saved some for a spring sow. This year was very weird for seed germination.....
  11. I have one, grown from seeds I collected in the mountains between Portugal and Spain in 1986- still going strong in a pot. They won't flower in a pot usually, and only then on last year's growth, so pruning them to get them into a greenhouse every year pretty well ensures that I won't see flowers. i haven't pruned it this year, since it's going into an over- wintering enclosure that has more height to it, but I'm not crossing my fingers! A famously 'messy' tree- don't plant one by a path or you will be sweeping forever...:)
  12. Thanks to ozjohn's seeds, I have two about 6" tall. One will be in the greenhouse now until spring, the other in my recently built over-wintering canopy. i figure too high a humidity when cold is what they don't like, like most 'tropical' stuff...
  13. The more I see of him, the more he impresses me with his ability to think up the most bizarre things at the drop of a hat.
  14. I resemble that remark...!
  15. As Frankie Boyle said " Donald Trump is nothing like Adolf Hitler- there's no way he could write a book".....
  16. He's been 'informed' about about that coin by loads of people!
  17. That is 'Bizarre Happening of the Week' What a head scratcher....looks like it happened in France or Quebec... My update pack felt like some paper in a pile - what would that 'feel' make someone think that it was valuable?
  18. Genuinely troubling. Buy that man a pint!
  19. Sad but true.... is the pig the leader of the Free World then?
  20. When it gets to 200Kg, and you're not going to put that in the loft, and you need the money, it's difficult not to weigh it all in....
  21. Ha! No- they see old pennies and know what they are. I'm not the only guy who brings them uk bronze coinage at that yard, apparently.
