  1. I'll alert the Media.
  2. Is a definitive fact that the obverse and reverse dies were single pieces of metal, and not concentric, so the outside could rotate like in the picture leaving the centre basically struck as usual?
  3. I find rotational analysis such as this fascinating- 'forensic numismatics'... I don't know enough about coin striking to probably be correct on this, but if a coin is in a collar when struck it can only rotate about it's centre( ? ), unless something goes strangely wrong, but with hammered, is it true that a coin can therefore rotate about any point, even about a point that is outside it's own circumference? Or move with no rotational element at all - just a sideways move? Did it always take more than one hammer blow?
  4. Preferably someone else's....
  5. Ah- that's what immediately came to mind- never knew it was the Big Yin who said it. One of my favourite quotes. Another was first popularised by Paul Begala in the late '80's- "Politics is show business for ugly people."
  6. From the Guardian website today: The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for heavy snow across eastern England, with people told to expect travel delays, power cuts and a chance that rural communities could be cut off. The big picture: the right kind of snow, London 2009 People in East Anglia woke up on Saturday to a thick layer of snow that had settled overnight, with the conditions expected to continue until the afternoon. Most of the rest of England and Scotland have a yellow snow alert in place, which will last until Saturday evening. Oh great.... You know what Frank Zappa told us about yellow snow, well, it looks like we are going to get some......:(
  7. I think biting sarcasm for the sake of balance is a misunderstood art form!
  8. It was five of my one-a-day.....:-)
  9. I went to school with Matt Sandblasted-Proof, if that's any use.....
  10. I wonder- in No10, in the Covid meetings do they toss a special coin to make decisions? You know - the one with 'Vaccinate' on one side and 'Vacillate' on the other....?
  11. I can't work out how it's done anyway- did someone tool the area flat, and then somehow remove a '0' from another penny and somehow fix it on? Surely 'tooling' implies removing material, yet to do a '0' requires adding material?
  12. Hmm...to me, the sticking point is whether you will get the money from the buyer. If it was my problem, I'd be explaining to the buyer your legal position, and get them to pay you for what they hold, so that title can pass to them, and you can then repay the compensation to RM, keeping things pleasant. Without the buyer paying you again, you can only hope RM don't twig, which is an uncomfortable position to be in.....
  13. She's not receiving message either- 'unable to respond to my question'.....yeah right...how many times has she been reported?
  14. You know, looking again- you both may be right- it has that big eye of a kestrel- I only saw it fly past whilst driving, so I didn't see the classic sparrowhawk tail - it certainly is the biggest kestrel I'v ever seen- maybe fluffed up against the cold? It looked big as it flew past....
  15. I would side with Jerry on this one, but.....did the guy who has it now tell you had arrived, in a pleased and amazed manner, or is has he kept quiet thinking he's won a free coin? The answer to that would determine my next course of action....
  16. This beauty flew across on my way down the lane to the workshop. I pulled out a cheap Lumix, 12x zoom, and click.....I'm really pleased - normally all I get is a tiny fuzzy speck.... Sparrowhawks are astonishingly beautiful up close- so many shades from cream to dark brown, particularly the wing covers. If you had to do a Painting by Numbers of this you would have a hundred pots of paint!
  17. Wow....I paid what I think is a lot for a nice EF one a few years ago, but mine looks like it was sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public inquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters compared to your one!
  18. Outside Stone Manor, west of Kidderminster on the Bromsgrove Road
  19. Good to see you getting straight to the point and not going round the Wrekin...:)
  20. Try the Black Country - same there...
