George IV sovereign. 8gr One of my better milled coins. shame about the tiny scratch on the kings face. any ideas what grade this would be ? Thanks for any help.

Zookeeperz I think you are right, there is something wrong with this coin. I don't know if milled coins were double struck ? or if old coins that had been in circulation of the correct weight were collected and re stamped in the mint ? looking at my coin under the legend there is the same design but different shaped letters and as Zookeeperz said the lion at the top of the coin has another lion underneath and slightly to the right. Plus looking to the left part of the reverse the shield with the two leopards, they look double struck but the leopards underneath look different, a much finer design but perfect compared to the ones stamped above.

I did not know that, made legally by who? mine has a copper core I gave the edge a slight scrape as wasn't sure if it was worn silver. lovely coin as well Paulus.

Still looking, Can't find this design yet. found a few Shakespeare penny tokens but not with the big harp on rev.

I buy very few coins as I always worry about if they are real. normally coins found in the fields are real or contemporary fakes, you don't see many Chinese people sowing the fields with gothic crowns. well not yet. I have found some fakes that would be worth quite a few quid if real but 95 percent of the time you know as soon as they come out of the ground if real or not. This was an unusual contemporary fake I found. Spanish 8 reales .. pillar dollar. Its a copper core with just a wash of some material that the layer of silver would have been attached to. I still really like the contemp fakes as they must have so much History attached to them.

Nice coins Rob. like Zookeeperz said about the I s in the legend, I was thinking exactly the same, as some of the I s have flat bottoms, I take it this was caused by dirty dies as you said on another coin I had. Glad you put your coins up to see as yours have the same flat bottom I s.

Thanks Rob. Can you suggest anything to clean the soil out of the cracks, are there any chemicals you can use for cleaning coins, a lot of my coins still have a lot of soil attached. Was always told not to clean coins. I give them a soapy wash and that's it.

Metal detecting find, is it normal to get die cracks in milled coins or is this a contemporary fake? Thanks for any help.

Not bad condition for a detecting find, Irish coins always seem to survive a little better in the ground. Looks like 1723 but the 3 looks like a 5 over stamp, but not sure.

Find from this Sunday, I know its absolutely shot but can anyone help with i.d of rev and obverse. My book has five different combinations of rev and obverse for the 1874 with the H under date. I think the reverse is H, but saying that the numbers in the date on mine look a little thicker than the one in the book. And maybe obverse 7, this is just going on the shape of the Queens face. Thanks for any help.

Just noticed on my coin on the obverse legend, the second two number ones in William III have no top cross bar is this normal, they look like they have been chiselled off.

I was wondering if some one like yourself would need to see the coin. Do you register the coin with anyone?
