I picked up this beautiful 1900 Florin. The grey-scale toning on the reverse is really nice IMO.

Interesting. On both sides or just the reverse? I had a look at his catalogue, and none look like this one. The size is wrong compared to his offerings too. I re-measured mine and it is nearer 19.5mm (3/4"). I have emailed Moneta Grunal with a photo to ask if it is one of his.

I have a 1937 proof set with a 2+B penny. I bought the set because it had the 1+B variety of florin, but am now doubly pleased.

Evening All, I've been with The Silver Forum (TSF) for a while now and recently heard some chatter about another interesting group of collectors out on the Interweb so I thought I'd stop by and perhaps stay awhile. I've been into PMs for about a year now. Started as a Silver stacker but the collector gene that runs in my family firmly took hold and I've been into numismatics since. When I first decided to leave the stacking bullion behind, I began buying everything that every world Mint said we should if we are "real" coin collectors and I quickly found myself out of money with a hodgepodge for a collection. I was fortunate to be given wise counsel fairly early on from several veteran collectors on TSF to educate myself as much as possible before making any more purchases. Short story long, I've since settled in, sold all that early stuff and have focused my efforts on quality Sixpences, Shillings and Florins from 1838 - 1910. And I'm happy to say my library continues to grow along with my collection! I look forward to getting to know you all and hearing your stories and numismatic adventures. Have a great weekend.

Something to consider when thinking that something is worn is that sometimes (often/mostly) the metal doesn't always fill the design on the dies, leaving details that can sometimes look worn, when you could in fact be looking at an as-struck hammered coin.

The reverse legend is nonsense and the obverse legends incorrect from any Edward coins ive seen. It doesn't make sense , thats the major giveaway. Plus as you say its sharp and bright. You do see nonsensical legends on continental coins imitating english coins but you can see there aged and are contemporary to the period, this does not look old. When i first saw it on eBay with the sellers pictures i thought it looked plastic or pewter.

There's a few companies make them. Grunal is a guess. I am certain its a fantasy mix up. It does not meet the criteria of any Edward coins that I've ever seen.

No. He tends to put nonsensical legends on them. Sometimes Civitas Grunal but mainly just random letters.

That would be the first place I'd be looking! It's not contemporary with the Plantagenets.

Looking at it close up now I'd say its one of dave greenhalgh. (Moneta Grunal).

Think i posted this in eBays worst offerings last week. I felt it was a replica.

i think i shouted at hem both down the phone at some point after many ignored emails lol the stock they have and they still felt happy with fleecing me out of £190 quid, ok i should have been aware of what i was buying but i trusted them, my fault really, they still keep sending me catalogs and emails when i asked them not too, would never buy from them again, or recommend, always something a little wrong with the coins they sell, little digs, corrosion, unsightly toning, i know a coin cannot be perfect. but you know what i mean

got a feeling its a modern copy, some one will be along who knows, just looks too clean and sharp

From the latin for ring - anulus. They can appear in pairs or singly, and can be large or small, complete or broken. It all helps with the chronology.

a little circle , each segment is classed as a quarter, they also appear on the obverse (heads side) sometimes on various issues

most of these £1 errors are hand done.. really wish Ebay would get rid of the thousands of 50p £1 and £2 coins listings... just clutter

Bought this a few days ago just waiting for it to arrive through the post. Not listed as far as I am aware. Anyone have 1? 1864 Half Penny stop between H and A and it is a very prominent stop as well. Makes up for some indifferent buys lately
