Mr T Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Just curious if there are any other British West African collectors out there, how you're going with it and what you're using as a reference.I've chosen only to worry about threepences, sixpences, shillings and two shillings - I have a few but not many: there doesn't always seem to be a lot for sale and it's uncommon to come across anything from between 1920 and 1936. I've been using Remick's book on Commonwealth coins but it says there are perhaps still undiscovered dates out there. David Vice's book is more comprehensive I'm sure but it seems a little more difficult to get a hold of. Quote
hazelman Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Im surprised that you appear to be the only one - put up some pics - who knows more of us may start collecting Quote

Mr T Posted June 20, 2015 Author Posted June 20, 2015 Or at least I would add images if I could do more than two at a time or actually edit my post... Quote
Nicholas Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 (edited) Yes, last time I saw the palm tree design like this on a coin was on a Ryal of Mary Queen of Scots, except hers had a tortoise climbing it! Edited June 20, 2015 by Nicholas Quote
Mr T Posted July 18, 2015 Author Posted July 18, 2015 I did some reading and it appears that 99% of florins and 95% of shillings dated 1920 to 1936 were officially returned and destroyed, so I guess that explains that. Quote
Mr T Posted January 3, 2016 Author Posted January 3, 2016 For anyone that's interested, Heritage is auctioning the David Vice collection at the moment (David Vice wrote an excellent book on the coinage of British West Africa) and it contains a lot of rarities. Quote
