Charlie Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Could I get opinions on this crown. I don't have a huge budget and found this for £50. I've seen the rim dinks which I can live with. Has the coin been cleaned? It's shiny although I cant see lots of hairlines? Ebay 301652562919Thanks in advance. Quote
Nicholas Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Harshly cleaned. To choose an uncleaned silver coin, think what silver might look like after 128 years - rather dull in appearance. What you want though is much of the original details. This you can determine by comparing your piece with a known example of exactly the same coin. Cross check individual high points on the coin against the known quality piece by moving back and forth across matched images. This is not a rare coin, I'd say you may do quite a bit better with more searching for 50+ quid Quote
Coinery Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Thank goodness you asked, Charlie, that's an appalling example. I'm amazed you could live with the rims on that, it's my greatest issue. I personally really struggle with even the lightest nicks on edges. Quote
Nicholas Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Now that's a nice example. Would have been rather more expensive. Quote
azda Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Now that's a nice example. Would have been rather more expensive. If i remember correctly it cost £120 Hammer from DNW Nicholas, Even though its not UNC it had great eye appeal for me and several others who i was bidding against. The UNC which was up after this one made less lol Quote
Nicholas Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 V good purchase. And a good example of a silver coin that is full of original lustre - the point I was trying to make earlier. Quote
