RChris Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Lot 1171 in the next LC auctionIs it me or has this seen a grinder around the rim?http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/img.php?a=cat&l=1171&f=o&s=l Quote
pies Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 To me loks like slightly too small a flan. The coin looks too circular to have been done with a grinder,if you could see the edge it would be a give away Quote
Nordle11 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) I was looking at that too, the giveaway for me was above the F:D (obverse) where the rim is proud of the coin.Gotta be a grinder jobby! Edited May 7, 2014 by Nordle11 Quote

Nordle11 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) It's a strange one, everything else has the detail. As a guess perhaps the edge was ground from the reverse side downwards and then finished by lightly polishing the edge around the obverse rim to get rid of the bits that were proud (and missing the part above F:D). The final polishing wearing out the obverse beads maybe? Edited May 7, 2014 by Nordle11 Quote
