coolsun Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Hi Everyone , i am new to the forum and would like some advise.I have a 1976 Gold Full Sovereign and just had a look in Spinks book.It is saying that a 1976 proof is extremely rare , i personally think that this is a proof ( but has some wear) because of the polished background.I have a few other sovereigns which are uncirculated and a have a matt background.Could someone please give me some information and some type of value. Thanks Coolsun Quote
Rob Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 (edited) You can say now from the edge milling that it isn't a proof.Value bullion given the impairment. Edited March 5, 2014 by Rob Quote
coolsun Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 Thanks for the quick reply.Whats the difference between the edge milling on a proof and uncirculated? Quote
Rob Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 The milling is much sharper and consistent. Attached is the one from the Bentley collection sold at Baldwins Quote
Peter Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 The hairlines have spoilt it as a numismatic desirable coin. Why do people do this? Quote
Peckris Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Mirror fields on currency coins became the norm from the mid-70s on. Quote
