Silver isn't that dense. It's only 15% denser than copper and about same amount less dense than lead. Gold is a different matter being 80%+ denser than silver. Far more likely is copper or bronze with a silver dip.

Which of course became the standard Roman silver coin in the later days of the Empire. Those official antoniniani looked about as authentic as Seuk's collection of Geo III shillings.

Gold is very heavy yes - esp in coinage which unlike jewelry is gold mixed with other metal mostly copper
