Coinery Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I knew this would be hot, but not £171 hot for a mashed-up example! Wow! 300990122622 Quote

HistoricCoinage Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I was watching that with anticipation. I was not predicting it to jump to that price, though. I was hoping to add it to my First Issue groat, but I think I'll wait for a better example. Here's the groat: Quote
Coinery Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 The obverse legend of your HG is only thought to exist on one die, which is 'ANG FRA Z HIB RE'! All other Lis Halfgroats matching that legend should match your coin...or would otherwise be a new variety! I so, so, wish I had the time to follow things like that up! Quote
azda Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I think what you sometimes have to think about is the fact that harder to come by issues do tend to command higher prices as was Noted by yourself Stuart when you commented about an anchor mark Liz 6d, but as has been Noted by Richard (tomgoodheart) is that he might be out of Touch with prices. Perhaps this is similar to your thinking Stuart? Quote
Coinery Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 But it was butchered, Dave! I would've paid £50 for it, and maybe I'm a bit bid shy on account of funds, but one will turn up on eBay where someone forgets to mention 1st issue or Lis...I'll have that one, but I still wouldn't bid more than £50 at that grade Would be interesting to look at the auction history of LIS pennies?
