Is this natural colour of this coin or has it been cleaned/dipped or something?

I'd say natural - I've seen any number of 1826 and 1827 halfpennies that exact colour (like my own 1827 for example )

Agreed, they always look washed-out, at least the best that I can capture them on 'film'!

Odd, isn't it, how certain coins can be 'read' beyond the image...thank goodness too!
