Damaged In Circulation Or Not?

I know this is not a variety or carries a value, but I am curious as to how this got this way. Something about it makes me think it has been cut intentionally:

I have the hollowed out half of a penny, though I've never see the other half or an example of a complete hollowed out coin in the hand.

I wonder if someone was experimenting along those lines, do you think? Maybe this would have been the coin that fitted within the hollow, if it had turned out neater?

LOL, yes It does amaze me what people do to coins. I have a Edward VII with a very neat 100 stamped into it.

Looking at the roughness of the remaining circle, I'd say it has to be post-production.

Someone has been busy with a file or bench grinder........there have been a number of "small flan" examples on Ebay but I'm sure they've had the same treatment.
