emperor Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Hello I'm new here. I've just started a hunt for a 1983 new peace 2 pence coin and my mum had three pound notes that shes had since she was 18, she was given them and told they weren't cut properly and there serial numbers are very close. I was wondering if they were worth anything or have any significance? Quote

Your example is of a very modern type and therefore of little historical interest, but the 'badly cut' nature would be of interest to a collector of such things, I'm sure. You'd be better finding a dedicated banknote forum, perhaps? Quote
Peter Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 10 years ago I set out on £1 & 10 shilling notes. I got a long way there with replacement notes being the rare ones.It started out with my good friend who gave me an un opened wage pack from 1940 which contained 2 10 shilling notes and 2 £1 notes. The history behind this fascinated me.As it happens the book price was about £180.00+My friend is a fine art auctioneer so what goes round comes round...I've put a bit of business his way.Another friend is into George 11 furniture...his purse strings are more flexible than mine although a few years back his wife asked for a selection of George 11 coins which still are framed in the down stairs WC of their 16C house. You'd have thought his wife would have asked for Elizabeth coins! But maybe her grasp on history isn't too great.. Quote
emperor Posted May 17, 2013 Author Posted May 17, 2013 So are these notes worth much to anyone? Would it be worth getting a collector to look at them in person? Quote
argentumandcoins Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 So are these notes worth much to anyone? Would it be worth getting a collector to look at them in person?Somerset £1 notes with an AT prefix are worth not much more than face value. The close serial numbers you refer to confuses me a little. Are you refering to the partial numbering on the far right edge? If so that has nothing to do with the serial numbers and is more likely a number on the security paper sheets used to print the notes on. Unusual but would not add significantly to the value. Quote
