is there anybody to help?

I think your problem HAX is that there is unlikely to be a Malacca coin specialist on this site? There may be someone with a general interest in coins of the whole region? Maybe scott knows something. He has worldwide interests.

The design looks like 1 keping Singapore merchants' tokens from the early 1830's, these were struck in copper at the SOHO mint in Birmingham, normally about 21mm diameter, about 1.5 to 1.7 gm

A trial on a 26mm lead blank is reported, as are normal sized proofs in copper and brass

Can you upload a better picture please,? hard to make out the date,

What size and weight is it, and is it copper?

Best reference I have is The Encyclopedia of the coins of Malaysia Singapore and Brunei 1400-1967 by Saran Singh. download

Remick's British Commonwealth Catalogue is unhelpful and refers the reader to Pridmore (I don't have a copy)

Could be a trial, but it's reported that the Cock with 4 tail feathers is considered extremely lucky, so maybe a gambling token or souvenir piece

interesting one though

:)

Your penny is definitely not a proof. Proofs other than for 1937, 1950 and 1951 are extremely to excessively rare. A proof will have mirror fields and very sharp features which once you familiarise yourself with them are obvious in most instances.

Your 1946 is actually quite worn and may exhibit a shine only because it has been polished in the past. Here are a couple of a proof pennies for comparison (1937 & 1970):

Found it! it was in the footnotes "Overstruck on a worn English halfpenny of George II. 31mm copper"

Also known overstruck on worn George III farthings and shillings

"These are pocket pieces made by the staff engaged upon the minting of these tokens for their amusement at the SOHO mint, Birmingham"

i can see difference with those proofs, but this one 1952 looks almost like mine.post-6581-067560100 1324769756_thumb.jpg

No - have a closer look. Note particularly Britannia's face, hand, and foot. On yours, the finger detail has totally worn away, the face is only a vague blur, and the foot is simply an outline. Whereas on that 1952 proof you can see all those details clearly. Your coin is AVF and probably slightly polished? while that proof is shiny from being a proof. In hand you would see the difference dramatically.

so is it worth anything,David?

Hard to say, such items never appear in priced catalogues, but there is a market for numismatic curiosities and counterstruck coins

Only the market on the day will tell you, if two people really want it ..........

ok-ok,i don't insist.but what if proof was in circulation?

The only proof for 1946 (if any exist) would a be a very rare VIP proof, which exist for many dates in the series. However, I've not heard of one circulating as (1) they were only issued to VIPs and (2) why would anyone spend something whose face value was only one penny but obviously worth a great deal more as a rare proof? I'm not sure why you believe yours is a proof, as it looks like a bog-standard circulated 1946.
