I know, you should buy the coin you like, but I have such a rigid scientific approach to the hobby, that I physically can't buy a coin that is worse than my own example. So, which is the better coin?

His is certainly circulated - a bit. A little under EF, perhaps. Mine, I don't think has been, but I gave it a kind of EF+ because of the horrendous weak strike. Mine has good lustre. I don't think his does. I ummed and ahh'd about it, but decided not to. I had £12-£14 ready to spend on it, just couldn't convince myself his was better. Decided to hang on, keep the high grade and upgrade on the basis od strike strength later.

what are your thoughts, chaps?

If I were to go to a Coin Shop or look on a Dealer's Website and was presented with both of those coins to purchase I would definitely purchase 'Yours.'

I think that it has a much more attractive even tone, where as 'His' seems to be somewhat 'Streaky.'

There seems to be little difference with the actual strike, with 'His' being stronger around the face, however I do agree that 'Yours' does seem to be of a higher over all Grade.

As to which is actually better? That is hard to say as I do think that you should purchase the Coin that appeals to you personally.

I'm not sure if that is of any help to you or not Declan, but that is just from my own personal perspective. :)

hard to say, i have similar, one like yours with a rubbish stike but great lustre, and another with a fantastic reverse, the obverse is usally the opposite to the reverse so i just had both

HIS is certainly a marginally better reverse strike than yours (Britannia's face, that is - her right tit is still as flat :P ), but not enough to make it worth paying good money for, as in all other respects yours is the more attractive, higher grade coin.

Gotta be honest Declan, and say that I would purchase his. Aesthetically yours is the more attractive looking, but as you say, the strike is horrendously weak, and it makes a mockery of Britanna's face. Conversely there is considerably more detail on his.

I have a few dates where I have kept two coins because I could not make my mind up

But if you forced me to choose I would go for yours :D

There are much better strikes out there, wait until one comes along

Well I just can't make head nor tails of it personally. I think I'd prefer his but I'm basing it entirely on tone as per the picture.
