Rachel Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Hello,Does anybody have a rough estimate of how much my 1 farthing would be worth please? It's in quite good shape considering how old it is Quote
Peckris Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Sadly "for its age" cuts no ice when grading coins, Rachel! It's rather pitted and damaged - the overall wear would place at Fine, without the damage. Which would mean it would have been worth £5 or £10 depending on variety (3 or 4 berries in the wreath). Sadly the damage would mean it's barely worth a couple of pounds, but it's a nice design.Historically it's interesting, being the first farthing of the machine age, minted using Matthew Boulton's impressive new steam-driven presses. Rachel Posted October 19, 2010 Author Posted October 19, 2010 Well it's a good job I'm not a coin valuer or all the old coins would be worth thousands That is quite interesting, never knew that...Thanks! Quote

Peter Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Hi RachelIf you got a fiver for your coin I would eat my cardigan and slippers and possibly my wife's vest.Coins really have to be in top condition....I have so many friends who produce worn bun pennies who expect them to be worth a fortune.Have a look on Ebay to see what they fetch. Rachel Posted October 21, 2010 Author Posted October 21, 2010 Hmmm, sounds like a challenge, might have to sell it now just to watch you eat your cardigan and slippers Quote
Peter Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Actually my cardigan is flavoured with Madras and Greene King IPA so I look forward to it.Not so sure about the slippers and wife's vest.See me on Petermunchingwool.com Quote
