circusbear Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 hello,i would value your opinions on this two pound coin and to whether it is genuine or not ,i can`t seem to upload the photos.the files are too big ,so if you could message me i will send you the photosmany thanks Quote
azda Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Your pix have obviously been scanned, you need to crop the scan around the coin then upload, you are allowed 150k upload for each reply Quote
Chris Perkins Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 It would be impossible for it to be struck like that because the silver part is inserted to the brass ring before the design is struck, as far as I'm aware. I think it is possible with the right machinery to actually push out the centre part, so perhaps someone has pushed it out, then pushed it back in again the wrong way round, just for fun. Quote
chris Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 chris is right i have heard that the 1998 coins were quite prone to popping out quite easly. Quote
Rob Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 You can remove the inner part by putting the coin into liquid nitrogen. With different coefficients of expansion for the two metals, the insert falls out without the need to apply any damaging forces, so it would be easy to produce a mint state "error". Quote
