Brian2 Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Not sure if this helps, but here is a picture of my contemp forged half crown dated 1819. I found out that the half crowns around this period were a big target for forgers, but almost all were made of copper and silver plated (as mine) Although the poor quality of my picture does not show it, there is still traces of silver on mine, but most has worn off. Either they got hold of genuine dies (and with a Recoinage of that size and scale there must have been one hell of a lot of dies used), or they used genuine BU coins as a matrix, perhaps in wax, to produce their own dies. Hi wizkid - sounds like a very worn out Victorian 3d piece minted from 1838 to 1887. They were often attached to bracelets etc, hence the hole which apart from the large amount of wear unfortunately means that it is worth no more than scrap value.
