This may sound an odd request, but my collecting needs have taken a strange turn...

I would like to track down BU examples of pre-Euro i.e. 1980s or 1990s coins from the major European nations - France, Germany, Italy; dates immaterial but really not the sort of thing dealers stock. Any ideas where I can get them from?

By the way does anybody agree with me that the obverse of the 1980s West German 50 pfennig is a corker?

'Coins of all nation' sets are relatively inexpensive coin type sets by Franklin mint, coins tend to be from between 1980-1990, some sets are very collectable like Russia and some of the smaller nations.

The 50pf with the woman planting a seed or tending to a seedling (from memory)? That design was the same from the late 40s onwards I believe. I've got a few nice examples of the earlier ones but anything from the 80/90s I've long since exchanged at the Deutschebundesbank for Euros.

Looking at it, I think she's planting an oak sapling. Rather evocative I feel.

Sorry missed this bit out of my last post. Anything post war is what I'm after. I'm trying to put together small representative collections of the larger and older nations.

Barrington Smith in Leicester, suppliers to the trade, used to sell bags of assorted BU modern foreign coins for modest sums. Perhaps you could get a trade catalogue of them and see if they still do them?

Did he! He's never mentioned it to me. A very good Rotographic book customer.

Thanks for that, I'll give them a try.
