scott Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 the situation here is obvious as to what the problem is.one has a gorgeous looking obverse (#1) but a worn reverse.the colouration around the lettering is gorgeous and shos perhaps a lot less wear then the coin makes out ashttp://www.omnicoin.com/coin_view.aspx?id=962787(if picture has lots of white around the coni use this)looks better on the reverse (and the portrait itself) but the legend is not as nice Quote

Apart from the ear the observe is much flatter than the reverse side so doesn't show the wear so readily. Also the height of the rim can also determine how readily a side will wearGary Quote
Peckris Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 scott, the second example is a whole grade better than the first, really it is. I wouldn't look at that first example, but if I didn't have a 12H, that second one is good for a bid. It's the difference between NF and NVF (or GF+ if you're being strict). Quote
scott Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 first one cost me 5p, so not too fussed.I did buy the second 1912H at £2.65 inc postage, so a good priced upgrade. Quote
VickySilver Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Peckris, I agree the second better but might capitalize the N (from nVF to NVF - would that be a slightly lower grade?). Quote

Peckris, I agree the second better but might capitalize the N (from nVF to NVF - would that be a slightly lower grade?).? I would have said that nVF and NVF are the same? Just a matter of personal preference? But I'm willing to be corrected on that... Quote
