Hi, this is my first post , just wanted to say what a great forum this is.I have been reading past topics and postings with great interest ,you guys certainly know your stuff !

I live in suffolk and have been collecting for several years now , i find local carboots a great place for new finds, but with the winter coming that source is steadily drying up,anyway found this slightly unusual one recently anyone got one like it?

I've not seen one quite like that - it looks like a one-off minting error, perhaps a broken die? If so, it must have been spotted pretty quick or there would be lots out there! (But then, it would be quite easy to spot that particular fault).

Almost certainly a cracked die. A few more coins and the die would have fallen to bits, at which point the machinery would been have stopped and someone would have started going through all the pennies in the bin to fork out the faulty ones; yours clearly escaped. This type of problem was much more common with early bun pennies. Interesting, but sadly not valuable.

Thanks for the welcome and for the info, i think i agree with you on the cracked die ,not valuble but as you say interesting none the less
